I disagree with some aspects of this but you realize how big of a mess IV is so you have my respect.

lol no game is incredibly unbalanced in the first game, phy resist/null/drain was more common in the first game and you can screw yourself over by not getting pierce and even then doesn't go through reflect.

Holy dance dominates the game until 1 boss.

There were 2 missions I've had trouble with so far.
Worst one was trying to kill all the SDF forces before they ran away. They were way to tanky for me at that point and with very little time to crack all the skills. Also some bad rng with getting the entire Atsuro's whole team stoned by Legion.
Second one was when resquing Gin, not because the enemies were hard necessarily. But Gin was killing everyone that had skills to crack, so I had to do it a second time and just keep switching with him whenever he tried to attack anyone.

This was the first SMT game I ever played and I loved it.

Should I replay this or work through Strange Journey?

Well I haven't fought the later bosses in forever, so I'll see.
But I'm loving it as much as I did the first time. It's generally been challenging but smooth, without anything being impossible and multiple options to address each stage

I think the SDF forces mission you could just cheese with Bind+Devilspeed/Switch.

SJ. replaying DeSu makes it shit especially NG+

2 is significantly more anime in the bad ways.

If you havent started Strange Journey yet, I would start with DeSu because its definitely the shorter game.

The gameplay is definitely an improvement to 1.

The "spinoffs" were created specifically to have more mainstream appeal, so what's the problem?

2 is Persona done right, just like 1 was SMT done right. 3 should be Devil Summoner done right and have a story in a smaller scale.

Yeah that's how I managed it. It was just demanding a lot of tasks in a small amount of turns for the demons I could fuse at the time and there were a ton of things that could easily go wrong and ruin everything. Like getting stoned, over and over. So it took some time.

Play the second Devil Surivor, it's more of the same but plot isn't as strong.

Yeah game is awesome, probably the one I replayed the most cause the routes really do feel different compared to other SMT games.

First game had an awesome plot, and second game had great characters

Babel is just a fight of attrition.
Take both Recarm and Samerecarm to revive.
IIRC revived characters are automatically put next in the queue.

The ending was fine. The Answer adds nothing of value besides introducing Metis for easy porn and Heartful Cry.
