I actually feel the urge to replay DoW2, first game was on GFWL so I don't have it on my steam account and won't get the key. I was hoping it'd be on sale but it wasn't, maybe it'll appear later?

DoW2 is still great but it's a completely different kind of game. It's not really a RTS at all, more a squad tactics game. Think more something like a realtime xcom, it's less about basebuilding and build orders and more about how you use your units and control their positioning.

DoW2 has a much heavier emphasis on micromanagement and paying more attention to smaller numbers of units, but they both require similar amounts of map control that causes them to play similarly enough that anyone familiar with 1 will be able to pick up 2. Though not everyone will like or be able to overlook the removal of most traditional RTS elements like basebuilding and simplification of unit and upgrade choice.

DoW3 returns to the classic RTS elements of DoW1 and blends them with some more tactical elements from 2 pretty well but completely fucks up the map design and reliance on hero units and abilities to the point that it's a fucking MOBA, and that doesn't even begin to touch the fucking matchmaking progression and unlock system. A MOBA RTS. With progression based unlocks and perks for your army and heros. Yes it's as retarded as it sounds. Don't bother wasting your time with 3 but enjoy the OST and weep at the wasted potential of that kino trailer. youtu.be/EQvGuSHMbMc
