Pros: Good writing, good performances, great characters, fantastic cinematic presentation both of the main story and side quests (some of the best side quests in gaming).
Cons: Meh combat, underwhelming open world where everything feels packed too tightly together, exploration feels like going down a checklist of chasing down map icons instead of naturally exploring the world.

I just started this game a couple of days ago. What are some general tips to maximize enjoyment? The most annoying thing about it so far is that Geralt fucking NEVER stops moving. Getting him to stand still is a constant battle, and whenever he moves, he won't loot stuff. The prompt to loot appears, but pressing the button does nothing. You have to press it like three times quickly, and then it opens and closes the window before you can see what you looted. Maddening.

Enemy strength is very much dependent on their level relative to yours, so when doing quests don't take on higher level quests than your own. Not more than one level at least.

Honestly, I think I lean slightly more towards packed world design than sparse world design, although I would prefer a middle-point where we have both a densely-packed, sizey city as well as comparatively built-up bandit camps like the ones Skyrim had.
