RTS is the best LOTR format I've found. MMO is shit, action games can be decent I guess but it tends to lose what makes LOTR good (looking at you, shadow of Mordor)
either an open world adventure game like Zelda or an RTS game like battle for middle earth. people remember the movie games fondly but they don't hold up

Personally, I would like another JRPG like pic related. No game in any genre could ever do LOTR justice, though.

NOT the grey lands, or whatever theyre called. elves go there to live eternally, but they occasionally take mortals there, like some of the fellowship. mortals DO die of old age there though.

dying in lotr basically entails your spirit joining the fabric that remakes the world after the current one perishes. elves are exempt from this remaking, as they are immortal.
