Again, like I said. This is a good thing in close quarters combat ESPECIALLY if the game has weapon collision and good hitboxes. In Bannerlord for example, using a sword in a formation against the enemy has a tendency for your sword to get blocked by your ally's shield or armor and the sword requires you a lot of space to use a stab or a slash, but with an axe, you only need to the axe head to bypass the enemy's shield to give them a good clobbering.
For this matter, short swords like the gladius are good too. Longswords are honestly a meme and only good on horseback.
