They're not "awful" though they are not as great as previous iterations. Doom 2016 > Eternal fixed stuff and QC release to now has also had a lot of fixes. I just hope that their next updates/games brings them back to full glory

Because of its brand. The games themselves don't need any effort put into them, because Nintendo has learned to exploit game design around social media. Why bother actually creating content yourself when all people want to do is be part of the mob on Twitter/Instagram/whatever playing Pokemon or Animal Crossing, and sharing their "experiences" with everyone else? These games have become big enough that their success is effectively self perpetuating, all because of social media.

This has been a couple of rough years for the gaming industry they just want quick money, all great games are above average at best.
