Depends on the firmware. if its up to date it can take like 30 minutes before its ready to go but if it hasn't been updated at all you can have it ready in 5 minutes with soundhax

you definitely need a guide, but it's just downloading files onto your computer and dragging/dropping them onto a sd card, then putting that sd card into your ds and running a few programs. voila, you're hacked and can just download games from the internet
