Favorite Status Effect/Buff in Vidya?

for me it's poison. I playing the safe and long-game, watching enemies slowly wither away as I retreat

>regular enemies are so weak that just hitting them is much faster than poison
>bosses are immune to poison
I hate it

Poison is the most useless mechanic in all video gaming

buffs and debuffs are so boring, they are always a requirement or useless.

Every JRPG ever. What's the point of status effects if bosses are always immune? They just exist to fuck you over.

>petrification

play octopath traveler

Maybe you should play good games instead.

Freeze/paralysis. I just wish freeze wasn't so low frequency in a lot of games.

>Vidya has bleed, fire and poison damage over time/per turn
>All stackable

Fuking LISA man, I love that game

Rad in borderlands 3 is kinda cool. It radiate them and if they die they explode and it radiate everybody around them making a chain reaction

>put on poison
>5 turs you take damage from the enemy
>just press attack
>2 turns you take damage
Epic

It's a three way tie between confusion, speed buff/debuff and lower resistance for me
By confusion I mean when enemies randomly pick targets to attack

depends on what game, I guess.

I tried doing some poison builds in dark souls 3 and it's rly shite for pve, but it has a goofy use in pvp-- tho it's never as good as really any other build lol. Fun to put pressure on ppl in a diff way tho (what is balancing, miyazaki)
On the other hand, been playing a lot of salt and sanctuary and with a rebalance mod, poison is really nice. Procs pretty quickly and u can get a lot of extra damage in while you dodge/block. (plus that game is a lot more accommodating for poison builds by featuring a bunch of diff poison weapons with good damage + a weapon accessory that almost instantly procs poison on enemies at the cost of building up poison on yourself)

I also assume u mean dark souls, because I don't remember ever using poison in pve-- aside from ds2:sotfs I guess. Poison was pretty strong in that one.

y'all know any other games that have poison as a mechanic?

Literally the only game I had fun using buffs/debuffs was Final Fantasy XIII.
Finished all FF/DQ games and a lot of other jrpgs without even trying them out.

>drunk guy spits his drink all over you

In vanilla DaS3, only the Storyteller Staff has worthwhile poison in PvE, because it actually scales with HP. Regular poison and toxin suck ass

>vidya has burn, bleed, poison, diseases, insomnia, crushing gravity and different types of poisons and burns
>they all stack

>game has plethora of status effects
>they all cancel each other out, even completely unrelated ones like bleed and frost
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I legit only remember freezing shit in videogames from super metroid, lol

I'll check it out, never seen it before.

Based.
Confusion is a cool one that can be interpreted in some diff ways, I remember playing terraria and I'm p sure there was a confusion debuff that fucked up your movement controls.

I like lowered resistance debuffs solely because of birdie hall in LISA.

Haste, gotta go fast

yeah ds3 just kinda shit the bed with some build ideas, which really sucks.
(tho it's still one of my fave games)

meanwhile, salt and sanctuary
>poison 'pistol' (more like a shotgun desu)
>poison axe
>poison whip
>dung pie weapon accessory that's worth using
>poison knife
>poison spear
>poison crossbow bolts, arrows, bullets
>poison buff that: Adds Poison AR equal to 1.8 * Phyiscal base damage of weapon applied to for 60 seconds (covenant reward)
>poison throwing knives, upgraded version that has 9x more poison proc (also covenant reward)
>poison fog spell to instantaneously proc low damage poison

if only ds3 had some more effective poison stuff for the pve experience :(

Well, if you're only interested in PvE, Cinders improves Poison and Toxic a lot and actually makes them worthwhile and somewhat competitive. It also makes Bleed better

I'll give it a look. Am kinda skeptical of these dark souls 'overhaul' mods because it kinda looks like they just fuck up enemy placement and shit monsters everywhere.

Damage/Healing reversal is always fun to fuck around with.
I really liked EBF 4 and 5 with their effects and how you can make them apply more often. There are combos that let you instadeath the entire enemy wave on the first turn.

Well, it certainly shuffles stuff around a bit, but so far I've found nothing that actually makes the game worse (although harder in places). And there are some real improvements as well, like the Smouldering Lake area

What's the point of DoT when you can outdamage them?

in PVE games, I enjoy status effects with rare chances to proc that are really strong if they do. stuff like freeze in pokemon.

>game has multiple levels of poisons
>even the lowest level is useful because it blocks healing

I fucking love me a good poisoning system.

>poison blocks healing
that's neat... I never really thought of that before.
