i was the same way with it. played the story once, hated everything about it, then played another 2-300 hours with building mods playing Stalker-lite and pretending it wasn't a Fallout game

Yeah because it's got an addictive "kill-loot-upgrade" gameplay loop. Everything about it is fucking bad, though. I replayed it for the first time in 5 years recently, and it just felt straight-up unfinished.

I feel like with some minor tweaks the story could've been great and I still like it, but the gameplay loop and gutted dialogue system disgusts me.

This game fails in so many ways it’s astounding. I still can’t understand how it won Game of the Year.
Just for an example, let’s use the “synth paranoia” in Diamond City.
>A guy turns on his brother and attempts to kill him for being a synth. This is quite dark and attempts to establish a tone of fear.
>He’s shot by security and the brother he accused of being an infiltrator is terrified at how quickly it happened
Next day
>He disappears from the game, which ruins any chance of showing how fear can leave deep scars in a community that can’t heal or give any more insight into what happened
>Guards are saying things like “don’t call your mom a synth, yikes!” utterly ruining any sense of seriousness
>The city is peaceful and there aren’t any more incidents like this
End of the game
>Piper was right all along, the mayor was a synth and she was justified! He’s deposed, the city is saved and everyone lives happily ever after. It’s almost like no one died because of it.
