Simultaneously a good and awful game.
I utterly despise it, but I can’t stop playing.
Simultaneously a good and awful game

I'm the same but with skyrim
i was the same way with it. played the story once, hated everything about it, then played another 2-300 hours with building mods playing Stalker-lite and pretending it wasn't a Fallout game
Yeah because it's got an addictive "kill-loot-upgrade" gameplay loop. Everything about it is fucking bad, though. I replayed it for the first time in 5 years recently, and it just felt straight-up unfinished.
I feel like with some minor tweaks the story could've been great and I still like it, but the gameplay loop and gutted dialogue system disgusts me.
I can't think of how it could be good, everything about it is shit in every way, it's even less of a sandbox game than Skyrim.
This game fails in so many ways it’s astounding. I still can’t understand how it won Game of the Year.
Just for an example, let’s use the “synth paranoia” in Diamond City.
>A guy turns on his brother and attempts to kill him for being a synth. This is quite dark and attempts to establish a tone of fear.
>He’s shot by security and the brother he accused of being an infiltrator is terrified at how quickly it happened
Next day
>He disappears from the game, which ruins any chance of showing how fear can leave deep scars in a community that can’t heal or give any more insight into what happened
>Guards are saying things like “don’t call your mom a synth, yikes!” utterly ruining any sense of seriousness
>The city is peaceful and there aren’t any more incidents like this
End of the game
>Piper was right all along, the mayor was a synth and she was justified! He’s deposed, the city is saved and everyone lives happily ever after. It’s almost like no one died because of it.
ignore the story and dump a ton of mods onto it like skyrim and forget you're playing a shitty game.
what mods?
I have 300 hours in it and never even found my son
I never even found that guy who shot my wife lol
better off playing Borderlands if you want more enjoyment with ARPG shoot loot shoot experience. even mods can't save this game, I mean, maybe with F4NV project come out in 20 years from now who know I might reinstall FO4..
The most fun I’ve had with this game is scavenging and building robots.
Playing through for the first time, I'm about 10 hours in. Around the 7th hour mark I finally realized you really can't roleplay like in NV, and ever since I made peace with that I've been having a lot of fun.
Also, I always do VATS builds in these games and I have to say credit where credit is due FO4 has the best implementation of VATS in any of the nu-Fallout games. I love the critical banking system and the action cam is still cool as fuck. I just wish I knew why my chance to hit the heat is always so low when my perception and agility are like 8.
anything this dude features is usually great. youtube.com
I remember when it was “A Post-Nuclear Role Playing Game” and not “A Fifties Themed Wasteland Looter Shooter”
Honestly, pistols are the best for VATS builds. They take up a lot less AP per shot, so if you have a 50% chance to hit an opponent's head, you can at least re-roll like 10 to 11 times with a full stamina bar. Chances are you will get it. It is kind of rare even with just 3 attacks 50% chance to miss them all.
I made my first pistol VATS build and realize how OP it is. Fun times.
its a comfy base builder after installing 70+ mods yes
I'm hoping FO4 and 76 will be red herrings in the franchise. It is clear to me that FO4 was a big prototype to see how viable base building and looting and shooting is for a Fallout game. 76 tied it all together, it is Bethesda's way of cashing out the franchise. Look at how many microtransactions are in 76. Hang out in the /fog/ and you'll see plenty of people are actually buying that stuff, too.
>go to Boston
>fps go the shit
thank god they redesigned piper
Protip user. Those Range and Accuracy stats on your guns arent for show. Range is total distance till falloff starts, and accuracy is what you'd expect. Both actually contribute to total VATS accuracy in combination with your Perception.
Also some mods like Reflex Sights actually decrease VATS cost if I remember right. While Scopes INCREASE it in exchange for a big accuracy boost.
not interested in discussing how realistic things are in an alternate universe post-apoc game w/ talking mutants and ghouls
I haven't even gotten into gun customization yet, my intelligence is only 2 and I've been messing around with luck perks.
Lol
Just a thing to keep in mind. Using short barrel things will hurt your VATS performance. For a pistol your best choice VATS wise is to have a Light long barrel one with Reflex sights used to build up crit and have a workhorse. Then you have a higher damage one you use to really spend those crits on and use off of VATS when needed.
So if possible, try not to slap extended magazines on your VATS guns since the Weight stat also contributes to AP usage.
Listen you fucking nerds. Story, lore and setting are absolutely secondary and are only condiments on the wider gameplay design we have implemented which conditions players to lap up a cheap dopamine hit between calculated intervals. This can be done through loot drops, handing in quests, levelling up, removing skills and replacing them with raw perk stat upgrades for the extra goodfeel of doing more damage. And it works, as you can see we make very fun games that are extremely popular and sell very well.
Therefore, it is irrefutably the best tactic that simply makes the most sense.
If you care about the "lore" or something so asinine, please refer to the caricature of the comic book guy from the Simpsons and reflect upon how it resembles you.
Based brainlet.
Just get the SPECIAL to whatever you need start getting the gun crafting perks. Something you can interpret as a nice change of pace or a casual change is that you don't need high stats to craft crazy stuff, except for 8 INT if you want to fuck with robots, you can make high level guns and armor mods with I think just 3 points in the SPECIAL stat they need.
Quick tip: If you haven't already when you start crafting hit whatever key highlights missing resources, (on console I think it's Y/Triangle idk on PC) it makes junk that breaks down into what you need have a little magnifying scope next to its name. It's really useful to know what has adhesive, wiring, gears, whatever.
I dont know, there's something about Fallout 4 where the loot/shoot just feels better than Borderlands. Having more a more interesting setting helps I guess.
is there any mod that disables the shitty legendary weapons drops from enemies and instead puts them in pre-determined locations like in the past fallouts? Else there's no point in exploring, I'm not interested in collecting garbage.
You can also do it with any resources you have on you if you choose the Component menu in your Pipboy. I honestly never knew that feature existed until someone pointed it out on the 76 sub.
Get the Crafting Framework and "Clothing and Armor Overhaul" mods. Now you have a purpose to collect random legendaries as you can scrap them for "Legendary Microchips" that you can use to put any legendary effect you want on any armor or weapon. Even put unique mod only ones on things like Power Armor or add a second if you so wish.
