Name a single JRPG with a good story/plot

Name a single JRPG with a good story/plot.

And yes, the story/plot IS the whole point of a JRPG because it's certainly not the mediocre combat, exploration or graphics. And it's definitely not the roleplaying.

Maybe the point of a JRPG is that you're directly taking part in everything you mentioned.

Xenoblade Chronicles
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Trails in the Sky (1,2,3)
Persona 3
Final Fantasy 6

These are just from the top of my head.

There really aren’t that many, and you could point out flaws in any that someone might say.
The thing that sets jrpgs apart from wrpgs are usually the characters and strong character writing.
For example legend of dragon doesn’t have the most memorable plot but hot damn those characters.
Another good example are the first two paper marios. Whatever plots in the end but your partners are mostly fantastic.

You do that in literally every other game ever made.

The sales pitch of a JRPG is: Hey the gameplay is kinda mediocre but the story is a lot more well written and important than any other kind of game. But so few follow through on that and the genre is kept afloat by autists who enjoy seeing numbers go up when they grind.

You're just here to shit on anything anyone mentions and be negative. Why did you make this thread? Go play a video game.

>Persona 3
lol

BoF 4 had a decent plot, not amazing but serviceable and without the cringe of most jrpgs.

case in point it seems:

1.) You don't read stories for plot.
2.) Play Lunar for story.
3.) There are several Japanese DRPGs with good exploration and/or combat

>mediocre combat, exploration or graphics
That's only true of 3D games. Play a proper dungeon crawler and those become good.

>You're just here to shit on anything anyone mentions and be negative
Get better arguments, this isn't your hugbox subreddit where I stroke your dick just for posting.

If you want actual good feedback then contribute more than a single sentence.

I've been playing Xenogears and I'm only 15 hours in but I'm really enjoying myself

>There are several Japanese DRPGs with good exploration and/or combat
If they don't have good story too THEN I DON'T CARE

Your high school anime dating sim being trash doesn't mean every jrpg is.

Pokemon Red/Blue

>You don't read stories for plot.
Can you demystify whatever the fuck this is supposed to mean

>xenoblade chronicles 2
Out of here basic bitch

Well, why did you post that who "certainly not" bit, then?
>Play a proper dungeon crawler
>SMT babby shit
fucking cringe

I play JRPGs to go on emotional adventures and learn about interesting worlds.

Swap FF6 for 9 and your choices are decent

>emotional adventures

Says (You)

?

Plot exists to move the narrative forward. If plot was the main appeal behind stories you'd be better off reading wikipedia articles instead of the actual material. How is this not common sense?

>Well, why did you post that who "certainly not" bit, then?
Because DRPG gameplay is mediocre drivel.

Vagrant Story

>How is this not common sense?
Because what you explained is not how a common mind works.
Take that as a compliment or an insult I really don't give a shit now

Now you

Plotfags are literal autists.

Sorry user, I only play JRPGs for the game-play.
But you should check out Live-a-Live. Pretty good JRPG but I couldn't finish it because my psp broke

Suikoden 2
Xenogears
Persona 2
Final Fantasy Tactics

JRPG storytelling died with the PS1

>Because what you explained is not how a common mind works.
To be fair, you need a very high IQ to understand the motivations of Magical Emperor Ghaleon.

Chrono Trigger
Terranigma
Earthbound
Xenogears
Xenoblade 1

>It's certainly not the mediocre combat, exploration
Hello retard
>Combat
What is KH1FM, KH2FM?
>Exploration
A lot of old-school JRPG's had some really fun exploration

Tales of Symphonia has an objectively good story.

>Chrono Trigger
Eehhh. That one sells itself more on the characters and interesting plot DEVICES rather than the story itself. Story is very surface-level.
Comfiest game I've ever played though. Wouldn't change a thing about it.

>But you should check out Live-a-Live. Pretty good JRPG but I couldn't finish it because my psp broke
The fuck?
Get on that shit, the ending is crazy.
I hope you didn't spoil yourself.

Emulate it on the big screen with a good stereo set up, the soundtrack is glorious.

Why is the anti-JRPG sentiment so prevalent amongst gamers?
I've never seen any other genre get shit on by so many people both inside and outside Yas Forums.
Do they just hold resentment for another culture or its people and that hatred emerges through the means of persistent shitting on their media?
People realize they can just play other games right?

Having a shit ton of main story dialogue died after the ps1

>Eehhh.
Back to faggot

Is that a thing reddit does? Guess I won't do it again because you, specifically you, don't like it user

People want things to cater to their sensibilities and values, and they can’t stand it when something defies them outright.

>I hope you didn't spoil yourself.
I did. However, I don't know how every story ends prior to the one with the original Dio so it's probably worth running back to it. The ones I comepleted
>Robot
>Wrestler
>Kung-fu
I was in the process of finishing
>Future
>Ninja
I could not figure out what the hell you're supposed to do in that future story

It's not trash though, you just have pleb taste.
