Thoughts on Morrowind

I played it on Xbox with a shitty television with no remote and broken buttons so my contrast was set to 0 making it nearly impossible to see at night or indoors without light sources. Made for one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Boots of blinding speed literally blinded my character so they didn't ruin the game for me like they do for so many others by making their character OP. Finding a spear that had a permanent light enchant was the highlight of my play through.

Peak TES.

Is this the one game that Yas Forums can universally good?

Personally, I always start a playthrough on my Xbox then abandon it. Recently created a Dunmer with a goofy name I can't recall right now.

>Boots of blinding speed literally blinded my character so they didn't ruin the game for me like they do for so many others by making their character OP
they literally do blind you regardless of what you do
you need to do a specific setup for them to not blind you
lol no Yas Forums will shit on morrowind whenever it's brought up, just wait a bit

>my engrish
Is this the one game Yas Forums can agree on being good?

>really specific setup
>any resist magic spell will lessen the blind effect

even though that playing on xbox is quite garbage, it's absolutely one of the best TES ever made. I had some boots with levitation and i could fly all aroud the map. Oblivion and also Skyrim didn't use some fantastic mechanics that morrowind had, such as enchanding or creating your own spells.

not after you wear them
you need around 80% res magic to be able to see properly

>xbox
no wonder you couldnt enjoy it. I cant imagine what the controls and inventory must be like on a controller

it's not even about the controls (upon release tes fanbase claimed morrowind was consolified as fuck lmao), it's about the horrid performance and loading times
you had around 15-20 fps IN CAVES

yeah, if you stop playing for some days you really lose the thread of the game

this basically

It’s evidence that Bethesda is totally capable of making a brilliant game, they are just lazy and complacent.

Literally soulless. Only braindead nostalgia fags think otherwise.

virtual D&D

What are you talking about, you just need the resist when you put the boots on.
You can use 100% magic resist spell for 2 seconds put on the boots and you are golden.

the best lore abd the best memes

Wealth beyond measure Outlander

It's been a while, but does the daggerfall exploit where you can abuse absorb spell and fire immunity to give yourself endless fireball spam as long as you use it right next to someone in marrowind? It's hard remembering all the broken shit between games aside from potion stacking which is consistent between them.

I was so pissed at Oblivion when it first came out for getting rid of levitation. It wasn’t till Skyrim came out that I finally forgave Oblivion for its faults because it was still a fun game in spite of that, while Skyrim was so fucking boring that I dropped it after like 3 hours of playing.

>they literally do blind you regardless of what you do

No, resist magic lessens the blind effect. I was still nearly blind even while having high magic resist, that's how they should be instead of just being able to make a Breton (or use the exploit of equipping them while having a 1s magic resistance buff) and be able to play the game with basically no downside.

One of the best RPGs ever made, and better than any other elder scrolls or whatever nu-Bethesda releases nowadays

Stand up... There you go.

I'm playing through for the first time right now. My one complaint is that I genuinely can't find any healing materials. Is that the point? Are they supposed to be scarce? Vendors only have like 3 shitty healing potions each and I can never find raw ingredients to make my own. I've been ignoring scrolls for the most part, so maybe there's a ton of vitality scrolls I've been running past?

I actually wanted that the character at the beginning had more lore, it could really be more interesting

The game is meant to be as brutal as possible, it's part of the immersion. My first time playing I got wrecked by a rat, and when I tried resting, an assassin fucked my shit up. It's hard at first, but ultimately extremely rewarding as you make progress and become stronger. I remember at the beginning of the game there was a dungeon where everything one shot me, and by the end of the game, I was able to one shot them. Never has a game felt more satisfying in how you see and notice your own character progression. Just stick with it, it gets easier, and itll be ultimately rewarding.

There should be materials you can buy from the mages guild in the main hub town (forget the name). You just buy her out, exit, talk to her again and repeat. Burn through all your money for mats, then make potions and sell them back. There should be a slight profit to it so keep doing it until you can make good potions and have a nice stash of them and cash.

The game is begging you to exploit it. Do it.

Same, that and the scaling realy dampened what should have been a strong follow up

IIRC there’s a vender in Balmora who has unlimited good healing positions. You just have to keep refreshing the barter page.

But yes, individual items are supposed to be hard to find in Morrowind. There are a ton of items that exclusively sold by just 1 or 2 venders somewhere in the world.

If we could get a setting as interesting as marrowind with it's deep spellcrafting, armor and factions that matter and then staple on daggerfalls character creation role play elements and a few massive towns and randomized dungeons then season it with some of the fun setpice type quests and areas of skyrim and oblivion we'd have a perfect game imo.

Shit, the vendors replenish supplies? I'm starting to think I'm too oblivious for these games.

I've read that Morrowind is the only TES that actually reflects being a character that's being marginated from society and puts a lot of emphasy on this aspect. The progression of being insulted by everyone from being a hero is absolutely amazing

Yeah, definitely. Nobody trusts or likes you since you are an "N'wah" and your character starts off being able to be blown over by a slight breeze. By the end of the game you are extremely powerful, and you are renowned across the lands. Seeing how much my character had progressed by hour 100 compared to the first few hours was easily the most satisfied I've ever felt in a videogame, because unlike Skyrim, where you are prophesied to be a hero and everything scales to your level, you have to earn your strength and the trust and admiration of the people, and not just have it handed to you.

making disgusting meta build of og morrowind was the most beautiful thing of my gaming youth

Damn shame the different vampire house factions didn't manage to get implemented. And no way to join old pothead in the end. That and the nature of most quests being escort or fetch related making it monotonous are my only real gripes.

How do I get into this game Yas Forums? I've tried to play it twice now but I always quit around the time I first get to Balmora. I don't really need any mods, but I would like one that removes all the fog so I can actually see the damn LOD.

Discovering your first exploit and scam tactic in an tes game is a rite of passage. Mine was learning potions stacked when I accidently drank a fortify intelligence and made a better fortify intelligence under it to replace it. I became a transcended god that day.
