Raytracing is not a gimmick
it's here to stay like it or not even console gamers will be getting raytracing the adoption rate will rise most devs will be aiming for raytracing if you dont ahve an RTX gpu or if you're planning to buy a PC yo uhave to buy an RTX gpu theres no other way around it
Raytracing is not a gimmick
Nobody gives a shit
the issue is that you can't have it for modern realistic games, not exactly sure why, maybe it's the BVH traversal part that is too slow? the polygon count in minecraft is quite high actually but maybe the block nature helps speeding it up or something?
DXR Minecraft cuts out all rasterization except for the skybox (irrelevant perf wise), where as all the other DXR games are a hybrid between rasterization and RT, so it's like getting hit twice in terms of performance.
RT is also a huge memory bandwidth hog, and until HBM stops being expensive as fuck or GDDR7 has a technological breakthrough, we will be limited by that as well
>Raytracing is not a gimmick
>the only games that are used to show it off are quake 2 and fucking minecraft
>the successor to raster graphics
>ever a gimmick
>can't have it for modern realistic games
>is already in modern realistic games like Modern Warfare 2019, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Metro Exodus
Having the slightest fucking clue of what you're talking about should be a testable requirement before posting on this board.
can minecraft die already
no one cares
Of all the games this could be showcased on why Minecraft
Because it's running fully path traced? And on a console too?
Most games can use baked lightning and some form of dynamic lightning that look good
It's not necessary right now. Devs are just lazy.
T. dev
It's still raster.
And vector is old, but it's the true aliasing-free upgrade.
oops I meant rasterization
ray/path tracing is the successor to rasterization and is certainly not a gimmick
I mean full path tracing not some specific effects combined with rasterized visuals
This. Raytracing only makes tranny dev"s jobs easier without passing any of the savings to consumers. Worse you have to pay a shitload of money for Raytracing cards and with a third of the frames. Who the literal fuck cares about it? There are significantly more pressing concerns like cloth/hair simulation.
Full pathtracing would look much better than what we have now
>everyone is a tranny
>also BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW why can't I use my shitty 750ti forever
For the trillionth fucking time, retards like you would be crying about Quake requiring a graphics accelerator when you could run Doom and Wolfenstein on a 386. Why did the xbox 360 gen create a bunch of faggot retards that think technology should stagnate and freeze because upgrading is too hard?
The Playstation 5 tech presentation had ray tracing as one of the big talking points with Sony's spokesperson talking about how they want the PS5 to be able to fully utilize it.
it's here to stay much like 4k and monitors with a higher refresh rate than 60hz. Won't mean that most pc gamers will adopt it anytime soon.
>long used graphics technology long considered the holy grail for real time rendering is not a gimmick
gonna tell me the sky is blue next? maybe grass gives off oxygen?
people who talk about raytracing as if its some cutting edge thing drive me insane
Minecraft with Raytracing has potential IMO
It’s cutting edge for gaming
Raytracing is a decade old.
Wait till you get particle gaming from the cloud.
real time raytracing is sort of cutting edge but not even that is all that special or magical
No one said it’s special or magical it’s just a big graphical leap that requires new hardware to fully utilize for most people
>a decade
a little bit older than that
The first ray tracing algorithm used for rendering was presented by Arthur Appel in 1968. This algorithm has since been termed "ray casting". The idea behind ray casting is to trace rays from the eye, one per pixel, and find the closest object blocking the path of that ray.
wel,l obviously im just pissed people keep acting like its same gimmick nividia made up to sell GPUs
Yeah it’s cool and all but the performance hit fucking sucks. I have a 2080ti and I can’t even run some games 60fps+ max settings with rtx settings on.
It is currently. Wait a few years for everyone to stop cranking it up to 11 to show off they have it and start using it sensibly. It's like any new rendering tech.
wait for the 3000 series and with any luck it will make it viable
>Raytracing is not a gimmick
RTX is.
Only two games(quake, minecraft) use it somewhat properly, Control mostly uses it.
All run like ass only two of those get the non ass DLSS and i have long lost interest in Control and don't care about raytracing in a cartoony game like minecraft.
Yeah I mean first generation is always like this so I’m not really worried because it will be optimized. It does look fucking rad on battlefield 5 and control.
You're right, it's not a gimmick. It's a meme.
It is a meme, to my knowledge no game has made full use of Raytracing so far and the hardware to run it is still too expensive for most people.
>ray tracing is introduced
>no dev factors it in when designing gameplay
What's the point
its really not a gimmick look what they have done with it for audio filtering
