It's just an upgraded version of 1.6. The main reason people didn't play it was because the vast majority of people who played 1.6 did so at net cafes who wouldn't spring for expansions.

For me it’s 100% the movement. It just feels right in 1.6, the way you can quickly duck to get a small jump, bhopping with mousewheel.

Autists did stick with it over Source because of stupid recoil and no will to learn something new. When CS:Go came out they had no reason anymore and competitive play was worth playing again because of muh money. The only problem ever was Source, which simply had shit recoil mechanics and no esport scene.

Weapons in 1.6 were generally more accurate with funner recoil, and movement didn't feel like you're an obese man walking on ice

95% of my CS time was playing CZ, some of the best times of my life, LAN parties in my basement. For a time we even had our own server and I we had these weird admin powers where we could grab people and throw them around or use a grappling hook. Could even restart peoples computers and eject their cd drives. There was even some tool where you could grab an object like a box and copy and paste it so you could make forts and stuff real time. Never saw that anywhere else. Even signed up for CAL or whatever. Good old days...

Internet cafes used to have 1.5 installed along with 1.6 but personally I've never played it or saw people play it in my time

yes it was the one that had Tour of Duty

I mean I’ve played 1.5 as a kid in a lan place. It wasn’t a cafe my dads company hosted summer ”camps” where you could learn some IT stuff as a kid, and we spent about half the day playing games. 1.5 was amongst them but this was in 2005 i think so after 1.6 was released
