Sakura Wars

Why did they make this shit an exact clone of the first game? Even that shitty Star Wars movie wasn't this blatant, could they really not come up with any new ideas?

Literally all they had to do was add a twist somewhere, but they never did.

ok now subverting expectations is a good thing

What you expect from Tite Kubo?
He’s just a talentless hack who did nothing but making Bleach for a decade.

Sega decided to play safe but they played way too safe. A shame because they could make an unique, modern spin on the formula while still sticking to its roots.

That said, I'm glad Shin Sakura Wars bombed. Valkyria Chronicles died for it.

Why do retards keep mistaking a fucking character designer for a writer? There's nothing wrong with Kubo's designs, anyway.

kubo just did the designs
it's not about serverting expectations, it's about not being a (worse) ripoff of a sega saturn game from over 20 years ago but with braindead mech action gameplay instead of braindead rpg gameplay

VC died because they released the fourth in the series after nobody fucking played the second or third.

VC4 would've done great if they called it Valkyria: Chronicles or gave it some dumb subtitle instead to let your average consumer know that this wasn't actually a sequel to anything. You can't be Final Fantasy in this day and age.

Is Nu-Sakura the Poochie of Sakura Wars? It feels like whenever she's not center stage, every other character stands around asking "Where's Sakura?" or "Have you checked on Sakura yet, she's having a hard time crying about nothing?".

I don't understand why all the other characters like her so much. She literally does one thing in the whole game of consequence, and even that is just indirectly because it helps the MC realise he's being a beta. She spends 90% of the game crying for no justifiable reason, and recieves nothing but praise because of it.

It's named shit writing. They want the audience to like a certain character by having the others shill it because the writers aren't smart enough to do it through smart, interesting characterization.

It wouldn't have even been that hard to make her more sympathetic. Play up the dead mother angle, tone down all the fucking crying about "muh perfect sakura can't be evil now!", and you'd have a character that rivaled the original.

You're asking too much from hack writers.

>People paid $60 plus tax for this shit

I don't think the writers were hacks, I think they were explicitly told to just remake the first game by the retards higher up in Sega.

otaku culture/anime writing has uniroincally regressed in many ways since the 90's because it's been stuck in a vicious cycle of appealing to smaller and smaller demographics of people who will pay more and more money since the 80's.

having something like the original sakura where she starts out kind of a fuckup and gets a hard time by the other characters who (somewhat justifiably) don't really like her that much until she starts to improve (same as ohgami) would be too complex and make people go "why other characters being mean to sakura?", which will make less people like the characters and thus people will be less likely to buy product about that character

>I think they were explicitly told to just remake the first game by the retards higher up in Sega.
That can't be the case because the first game had a conclusive ending instead of sequel bait

>Kubo did the writing
Retard

The first game had a conclusive ending because nobody working on it thought they'd get to make a sequel, they didn't think it'd take off the way it did at all. That's why they had to scramble to make one, and why the second game ends on such an obvious sequel bait cliffhanger.

I played 1 and 5 and this, and I liked 5 the best.

A game can be successful even when people hasn't played the older entries (like Ace Combat 7).
VC4 was ferociously attacked and boycotted by waifufags because the game lacks romance, contributing to the game's commercial failure and death of the franchise.

Shin Sakura Wars being the flagship Sega waifufag game, the one where all of those people latched to.

Don't care. Still like it.

You shouldn't.
You're supporting mediocrity.

>You can't be Final Fantasy in this day and age.
this is an odd comparison to make given that the majority of final fantasy 7's sales are from people who had genuinely never played a previous final fantasy game or even a jrpg at all

There's a big difference between 7 and 4, though. 4 games in a series all being direct sequels seems plausible. 7 doesn't.

part of the reason ff8 did so poorly critically is because people assumed it would be a sequel to 7

Because 7 did so well, that a lot of the new fanbase was expecting a sequel to it.

KUBOOOOOOO

how is the game? i can get it for the equivalent of 47 burger bucks in my country. might just snag a copy at that price but it comes earliest after a week due to corona chan lockdown

Nah the dude in charge of the scenario is definitely a hack writer and the issues with story continuity and plot development are one of the biggest complaints with the game. As far as the general premise, the director of this game would send a different proposal to Sega management every year and they finally greenlit this one.

Maybe it's not a coincidence that FFVII and Sakura Taisen were the biggest games in Japan in 1996-97 releasing 4 months apart, both petered out as franchises around 2007, and were revived within 5 months of each other.

Shit. The blandest dating sim imaginable with a bunch of shitty musou-like action segments.

2, while the later games were fun I ultimately just wanted to go home and see Sumire some more.

>Maybe it's not a coincidence that FFVII and Sakura Taisen were the biggest games in Japan in 1996-97 releasing 4 months apart,

I find it kinda sad that Sakura Wars was Sega's biggest hit on consoles in Japan.
So many other games on MD, Saturn and Dreamcast that went under the rug.

Yakuza now being the flagship for Sega seems fine by me however. It has all the Sega qualities.

Ordered it today, looking forward to it. Never played a Sakura Wars game before or really any dating sims/VNs before I'm interested in the concept, throwing in some action gameplay is a nice cherry on top.

don't care, still like it.

Please respond

Why? Sega's best games have always been arcade titles, and those are obviously never going to sell great. I think ST is the best series Sega ever put out in terms of the console format, although my favorite Sega game is still Virtua Cop 2.

While Yakuza and Shenmue are alright, I find there's just too much downtime for me to really get into it. GTA3 was the first decent open world game.

Yes.
Japan, where the franchise was a behemot during the 90's not unlike the Ninja Turtles in the west, hated the new game. People who never played a Sakura Wars before found it unremarkable at best, terrible at worst.

Pffffahahahahahahah

You're a retard who fell for Yas Forums's lies.
The Sakura Wars series is first and foremost a dating sim / visual novel. The mechas are just a minigame used at the end of every chapter to solve whatever conflict is happening.

I warned you. I warned you to not listen to the Yas Forumsermin painting it as steampunk Armored Core.
