FF7 emulated with CRT filter + Reunion mod for better translation

FF7 emulated with CRT filter + Reunion mod for better translation.
Is this a good way to play it? Is the Reunion mod necessary to get a better story experience?
I downloaded the steam version but I hated how the characters models looked. This is my first time playing FF7

Reunion is not a better translation. It's pedantic.

Yeah, that's pretty alright. I'm personally not fan of filters that are this aggressive, but if it looks fine to you that's great. As far as the mod goes... I think you'll miss out on a bit of charm like that the original translation has some cute stuff in it.

Don't listing to faggots who want to sell you on any gameplay changing mods for the first run.

>better translation.

soulless

Aren't there story details lost in the original translation?

Another additional advice, don't try to go for a 100% min/max run, the game really isn't hard and hands you plenty of things without going full autism just have a comfy adventure. If you actually want to explore the mechanics and grind and shit, do that in a second run with some difficulty mod.

Explain yourself.

>Explain yourself.
Original translation.
>You should explain that one more time, so that I can understand it better because I want to avoid any misunderstandings between us.
Reuining mod.

No. What's pedantic about the reunion translation?

Fuck reunion. All translations mods are shit.

Nah, both the original PS1 and PC translations are bad.

thelifestream.net/ffvii-the-original/ffvii-version-guide/ps-english-versus-pc-english/

Reunion actually gets more things wrong than the original.
For example, it names the final boss Seraph, while the original Katakana spell it like this: セーファ, which is "Sefa", not "Serafu". This is a reference to the Sefer Sephiroth, a kabbalistic book about jewish mind control. This is pretty important, since the whole point of Jenova/Sephiroth/Reunion/etc. is a not-so-thinly veiled reference at how some kabbalist jews (e.g. Bnei Baruch) consider themselves literally aliens being sent here on Earth by their "God", Jehova, to "inherit the planet". And this is also why the abomination that is the """""Remake""""" is drastically changing the story, as the original one, if released today with a big budget production, would prove to be hugely controversial. But I digress.

If you want to experience FF7 for the first time, then the best way is to play the original US PSX version with these two patches:

romhacking.net/hacks/4696/

Why not the PC version, you may ask? Well, without too many spoilers, let's just say that it fucks up the music in what is literally the climatic moment of Cloud's backstory (and one of the best plot twists in all videogames). To my knowledge, there is no patch for the PC (or other versions) which fixes that moment.

Basically: play the PSX FF7 first and then play on PC with mods for subsequent playthroughs.

Thanks, I won't mod it then

Just get the ps1 version, a ps1 and a crt tv.

reunion isnt complete. after junon it's all OG PSX translation.

Ok, I'll use those bug fixes. Thanks

This is completely false.

Emulate the PS1 version with Retroarch Beetle PSX HW

damn that looks like dogshit

That image needs a CRT filter. Badly.

why are there dark squares all over the place?

What CRT filter is that?

>Upscaled models on top of a stretched pre-rendered background that's blurred with bilinear filtering
Holy SHIT that looks terrible.

That's the dithering, which PS1 games used to give the illusion of having more color depth than they actually did. Your CRT TV would blur the squares together and it would cause the picture to have the illusion of being more color-rich.

there hare no psx versions of ff7 with a completed fixed translation

Not that user, but I'd say it looks more like a DotMatrix shader than a CRT filter. Could be a combination of both.

I replayed one last year, though. At this point, the project is just ironing out the kinks.

damn boomers and their inferior crt fetish

that's the version that's incomplete after junon lol

Dithering. That screenshot is from before i knew you can adjust it to internal resolution instead of native

Playing this semi-blind for the first time and just got the broken plane/Cid. I'm enjoying it so far. I see lots of potential for breaking the game with certain materia combinations and enemy skills. This is clearly Square's favorite kid. So many influences from this game passed on to FF14.

Fuck. I was really enjoying it as well.

This scene is well after Junon.
