Given the chance to pick one up cheaply, is the Vita worth a look?

No, unless you are into some extremely niche japanese games. Vita has a terrible library of games. Just look at the best selling games on the system.
depends what you are looking for, if you like niche jrpgs and want to play VN remakes that's what it offers and also the best handheld emulation device right now
If you want to play psp and ps1 games yes. Though you will have to rebind the l2 and r2 buttons for most games. It was worth for me just because i can move the camera withe right analogue stick in monster hunter fu
It's a great emulator machine, but actually decent Vita games are few and far.
I'm having a lot of fun with the fat psp for ps1 emulation. CFW was the easiest I've installed for anything before.
Only if you love extremely niche Japanese games, absolutely need a portable version of them and are willing to sacrifice framerate, resolution, and graphical fidelity to get it.
Most of its games have been ported elsewhere without those issues and sometimes with more content included too. As for its emulation capabilities it's essentially just as capable as a PSP was and in some cases those decade old PSP emulators work better than the native Vita ones so I can't in good faith recommend one for that reason either. If you have a PS4 or a PC there's a very good chance you already have a place to play the better version of every single Vita game you're interested in.
100% worth it, especially if you hack it
>still a better indie library than Switch
>PS1 & PSP classics
And the actual library has tons of PS2 trilogies, some other ports, games that have been ported to PS4 (Gravity Rush, Tearaway), and it’s own set of worthwhile exclusives/multiplats etc.
Pretty shit desu. Bad library, underwhelming emulation.
You say this like 100% of those trilogies don't run at a nauseating 22 fps. Jak Collection was the worst for because of it.
Great for porn games.
Get a PSTV instead and hack it.
if you hack it, you can play all ps1 and psp games
Absolutely. Purely from a product design perspective, the Vita is still one of my favorite consumer tech products. The thing has a holistic quality to it, in addition to offering an incredible library once hacked.
pic related is the list of games on the system. if there are games that youre interested you should check how well it runs on the system and whether theyve been ported to another system you have.
It also has an active homebrew scene like emulation and unofficial ports. you can read up on what vita can emulate here emulation.gametechwiki.com
I use it to play some niche jap or indie games. Id say its worth but only if you find the above worth.
>literally 75% is weeb shit
Into trash it goes
>run at a nauseating 22 fps
just like every switch game
but Yas Forums never seems to have a problem with that
>who cares about fps it's fun!
Those are current gen ports, not ports from 10 years ago.
The Vita was way more powerful than the PS2, it's inexcusable that many ports ran worse.
It was worth it to me for Soul Sacrifice Delta and Muramasa alone. The ports of Dragon's Crown and Odin's Sphere Leifthrasir were the cherry on top.
Hack it and do what you want with it. It's got a FreeShop-like app and it's also a great way to play PSP games since it has a perfect 2x upscale.
Don't buy a Vita unless it's a factory sealed package of the original oled model you think you can scalp and flip on some fool somehow.
It's a very neat handheld with interesting features that never got used with Sony aborting it so soon. A totally useless paperweight today.
Good for emulation if you hack it but today's phones happen to be better.
Any midrange phone can emulate up to Gamecube; High end phones are capable of PS2 and Wii emulation with good performance.
Do you like Uncharted?
It's worth it for Golden Abyss alone.
No. A bad Switch port runs at a dynamic resolution in the 25-30fps range. A bad Vita port runs at subnative resolution around 720x408, with a framerate in the 15-25fps range with drops on top of that.
Sony supported it for about 6 months then lost interest. Fantastic machine never really given the chance to shine.
wrong forum man
I always thought of buying one too, so I can emulate it. But don't I need a certain PSVita version?
>phone
thanks but I like actual buttons
>PSTV
>He doesn´t know
if you can get it cheap any firmware can be hacked
then it's just a question of whether you want to play any of the games you can get for free
i get a lot of use out of mine but i don't mind ports and technically inferior experiences
it's also the most comfortable handheld i've ever owned, it blows the 3ds away with how nice it feels in the hand
Doesn't know what?
Depends on how cheap, but some of the games on vita are kinda cool
Its price has skyrocketed recently, to the point is better to just get a Vita
