The fuck are you smoking? Upbeat and joyful is exactly what she was in the original. Contrary to their immediate visuals, she was the spunky tomboy compared to Tifa's timid personality. Hell this is the first time in many years that she's acted like the original Aerith instead of the pure and saintly Jesus-figure that the Compilation has made her out to be.

As I said, Crisis Core is a terrible done retcon game. Everything about it is terrible. The only two somewhat (SOMEWHAT) good things about it were:

She was always that way. One of my favorite moments in the game is when you're crossing the tracks and when you lower the train bridge she will be jumping up and down saying "you can do it Cloud!". Positive encouragement > negative condescension.

There was no retcon here. CC simply had its own Wutai case that happened later. One Sephiroth did was years before the main plot in CC since he is already famed General and Shinra's poster boy by the time CC starts instead of some nobody that he was before raping the hell out of Wutai.
