in their defence, video games are just a form of artistic media. It can have subtle political undertones and still be very enjoyable like other arts.

LOTR is more or less a 6 volumes long pamphlet on the virtues of a modest, calm, and appeased lifestyle in connection with nature. One of its theme is coming to terms with death in a Christian fashion and another one the question of the world "ageing" being less and less beautiful as time goes by.
It's nevertheless an excellent book that doesn't force these themes on you, but try to make you think about them and offers a philosophy about it.

Video Games "developers" nowadays are unable to understand that a good political art is all about nuance, convincing your audience and making them think.
They just show something in your face and think they're making a statement, it's not convincing, it's alienating; "if you don't agree with me, this game is not for you!"

I wouldn't mind gay stories if they had better video games writers and if they writers thought of the art first.

It'll get there. Game Devs are still struggling through the "loook, we added GAY characters! We're so progressive! Give us your Woke Bux!" phase. Eventually the adding fags to your game won't be seen as progressive and then we'll get real stories with it.

nah, I don't think it works that way. If they go with the "we're WOKE" approach, they can't write good stories from the start.
they should think of, "what does my character being a gay brings to the story?". It can be a romantic interest, it can be that the dude is a manwhore (you can easily imply it without shocking your Christian audience) and the game is about his journey to a more balanced lifestyle... it can be about a man or a woman who takes relief in their pure hedonistic lifestyle and it's one of their villainous traits...

There are some good stories to be told, especially in a vidya setting, but it should be subtle and something the player needs to be invested in your game to notice. This will never happen if they make games to proclaim how woke they are.

You're both being far too generous, the simple and obvious fact is is that the writer is a hack that thinks by having a checklist of woke elements that the game not only becomes "good" but transcends criticism while simultaneously making all critics bigots.

People like this couldn't get into film making and so make audiences sit through their tedious, shitty writing and pass of criticism as "social commentary". Beyond that they very obviously despise the subject matter they're working with and the fans who appreciate it.

After reading the script it comes across as this self loathing, nihilistic, anti human, anti life, anti decorum, navel gazing ultra violent teenage fantasy. No wonder so many staff left, the people who like messages like this are some of the most toxic obnoxious people imaginable.
