No. For a one man job, the gameplay is incredibly tight and satisfying, the music catchy, distinct, and striking when it needs to be, the characters all compelling, the world interesting and with a particular mystique.
It's a great, revolutionary game that shows that any person, if practiced and determined, can make an excellent game. I'd say it's perfectly rated. It's not as ubiquitous as a lot of other indie projects are nowadays, almost to the point of it being niche, but it's legacy is well respected.

I played it in 2004, got it off some website caiman.us that also had Yahtzee’s adventure games and a lot of Sonic and Mario fan games and some other freeware. Enjoyed every second of it but granted I had the luxury of not having it force fed down my throat
Ultimately overrated is subjective, I find that anything anyone describes as being great or perfect I’m going to dislike

The gameplay is very far from tight, though maybe satisfying. The movement is too much momentum based, making it more annoying to precisely control the character.

Default, okish background music. Probably should have played it without it so I could listen to something interesting.

Maybe you have something with the world, but the characters are definetly not interesting. Probably the worst part of the game is not being able to skip the cutacenes.
For when it came out and it being a one man's game, it's really good. However, don't classify this game as a great game by today's standards as it just isn't. If I could skip all of the cutscenes, I'd agree that this is a good game.

The thing about this game that blows other indie games out of the water is that he created his own music tracker for this game. It's like Doom in that not only did he create a great game but built the tools to create his great game. He's a legend. And humble to his core. Never wanted a dime for it. Pixel is too pure for video games and we don't deserve him.
