One of my best gaming memories was playing on a Yas Forums private server with boosted EXP and shit. I was finally able to level at a rate where I could see higher level shit. It was a lot of fun. The music still takes me back.
All things considered, Maple Story is an incredibly novel concept. A 2D MMO with action and platformer gameplay. There literally has not been a successful game like it since.
Nexon also published a beat em up MMO called Dungeon Fighter Online. I didn't stick with it, but it was fun.
seems like it would be the perfect type of game to adapt for a mobile game where all the MMOs are 3D for some reason but also very shit
Those memories of skipping schooldays just to play Maple all day...
Shame about the whole OSM shitshow. It had potential to relive those old feels.
Man I always love maplestory BGM, really brings back all the memories.
>Snowing one morning during my middle school days
>late arrival to school
>went on maple and found empty channels of MP3 and grinded for a comfy 3 hours
god dammit
phoenix exists if you want pre-4th experience. maplelegends is the best post-4th job server though
How do you know they're not malware like OSM was?

Reminder that the big bang patch did NOTHING wrong
>nerfed mage farming so that the game wasn't magestory anymore
>Removed HP washing and rebalanced HP gainz, which while not extensively abused on the main server, allowed everyone to naturally enter bosses
>rebalanced several other classes to make them less physically painful to level like Hero and Bucc, or in Shad's case making them into actual thieves by letting them finally CWKPQ
DBs and Potentials/Cubing was the patch that fucked everything up and made loads of people quit balancing-wise; there were still lots of people partying and playing together, especially in popular maps like ToT/LHC
The game didn't lose its soul until a bit after the chaos patch, which was the last "dumb fun" kind of patch with PvP shitpost shenanigans, Cygnus/140 Gear, and another event boss
The first two points are exactly why private servers tend to be shit because you /have/ to play a mage and leech your dumb ass for several levels before you can actually play the game. PreBB being MageStory is the same reason why Reboot sucks, except it's KannaStory there
2.1 mil
That was the actual price last time I played on official servers
I remember luring noobs to pig beach or ant tunnel, something equally sinister like that, and then casting lightning on all the enemies to chase them.
This one is so underrated

At least it was before they put it in a area

I want to go back.

Anybody else getting the itch to go play a private server again?
Quarantine's is not helping with this
Sure, it might have done some good stuff, but it also did a lot of bad stuff and what started the chain reaction that killed Maple. One thing that stuck out to me was how they destroyed the map layout completely, ruining the SOUL and making it some crappy hub based abomination. The pic doesn't really do it justice. But yeah, it was a long time ago and a lot of the other changes are fuzzy in my mind, but there was plenty of rage because of that patch.
What year ? Yas Forums does one every summer. I might have played with you
Why did no other mmos have stuff similar to pqs?
Dungeons seem to always be "kill things in a blob until you finish", they never seem to have any puzzles or tasks that require actual coordination.
Closest I can think of would be Baldesion Arsenal from ffxiv
because puzzles and mini games don't belong in the "go go go" mindset that most people have these days
what a shame
>implying PQ puzzles weren't rushed through with a "go go go" mindset back in the glory days

Is there a good single player game like maple story? Maybe less grindy, but 2d were you have quick movement and kills tons of enemies
Ragnarok Battle Offline
this is a really interesting point and I understand my complaint better as a result
modern "go go go": Encourages knowledge of class and dungeon, mechanical. You can effectively treat teammates as bots.
maple "go go go": Encourages awareness of what your team is doing, organization and communication.
The latter is more desirable to me because mmos are a social genre.
