What’s the best new modern engine and why is it Source 2?

what makes it good?

So I heard that Source 2 turned out to just be Source with Rubicon dropped on top, if true where do the visual improvements come from?

Tell me that graphics havent hit the peak last decade. It sure as fuck seems like it.

It looks great and the physics are the best in the industry.

Feels like it yeah. Doom Eternal's graphics are a straight downgrade from D16 even if it sometimes has more things on the screen.

Source 2 is effectively still Source in the same sense that the Creation engine is still Gamebryo.

Lets not forget every downgrade after every teaser gameplay video.

>It looks great
not cause of the engine
>physics are the best
physics were good in 2004 already

You haven’t played Half Life: Alyx then. Half Life: Alyx’s physics make Half Life 2 look like Half Life 1.

>graphics =/= engine
go make something pretty in java

>minecraft RTX exists
dumb zoom zoom.

if you think minecraft rtx looks good then you have no business being in any discussion about game graphics

Minecraft RTX is hideous but appeals to the lowest denominator of consumer

>Half Life: Alyx's physics make Half Life 2 look like Half Life 1.
correct but, a 100x more. hl:a looks extremely photorealistic compared to anything.

Agreed

If the game looks this good in VR, just imagine a regular game running on this engine

wanted to buy Index and play Alyx but I don't feel like upgrading my laptop just yet (I move too much because of my job for real PC)
god damn it
this won't do, right?

imagine how much better the graphics would be if you didn't have to render the game twice at 120fps

>extremely photorealistic
that's a bit of an overstatement, lots of things look like they were made out of clay, really have that sculptural quality that takes away from realism (though this is more the 3D art style an not engine itself)

yeah, but even then this is easily the best looking vr game in the market

Probably would beat unreal graphics or re2 graphics.
Anyway half life alyx was a disappointment as a game though, I hope they return to the run and shoot gameplay.
Surprisingly.
Half life alyx can run on gtx 970.

It’s gonna be very laggy and you’d have to play on low settings. Lag is annoying in VR because you can get nausea from it. Also do you have a DisplayPort on your laptop? Index uses those instead of HDMI.

Hah, I don't even get the option because I live in a third world country, but I think my laptop should do fine, I'm lucky I live next to the us border

And on keyboard and mouse to, vr is a nice experience, but not something I want to mainly play half life games on unless they are spin off's that is the reason I bought vr for.
You can try visit a country and stay for a bit and get a pc that way I mean you already some brazilians doing it in other countries.

does dvi-d to displayport do the trick? it should, right?

Not the same user, but an adapter should work just fine right? my laptop has everything but a displayport port

I'd give it a go if I had a visa, and right now it's not the best time to go get one

No, adaptors aren’t supported by the Index. It has to be a direct DisplayPort. Look it up.
