In fact I'd argue that pretty much every time an entire playable build of a game has leaked was worse, with the exception of DE:HR cause that got people to buy the final game.

The OP is talking about the magnitude of the leak, not the quality of the game. TLOU2's quality and legacy remains to be seen.

Almost every pinball machine is leaked before it's official announcement. Right now the upcoming pinball machines are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, another Guns N Roses pin.
And a few that are far enough away that I'm not certain the rumors are real:
James Bond, Rush, Toy Story, Led Zeppelin, Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Half-Life 2 is the only one I can think of that was as "big" but that was hacked out of hype, this was hacked out of spite and disgust for the game which makes it way more epic

It looked a lot better before the rework too DESU. There was an OICW-esque rifle and more levels in the prison IIRC. Earlier trailers showed it. Can't find it now after a cursory search on YouTube - sad. I can still remember the sound it made when it fired.

I will never be as hype for a game the rest of my life as I was for HL2. God what a feeling that was.

The difference is the HL2 ended up being another genre defining game with an engine that had feature way ahead of their time. The story also continued getting better as it went on. TLOU is a movie game with a squeal already neck deep in political drama and a studio who's developers are so miserable they're leaking content left and right.
