>Boring as fuck cast (the only cool playable character is Irvine)
>Magic system was gay
>Can't grind for money. Have to literally wait for mommy to give you lunch money
>Can't buy weapons. Have to collect magazines and parts
>Level scaling
>Boring, uninteresting story
Carson Ramirez
They really should have started you out with some refine abilities, and have you unlock draw 1 hour in.
Gavin Jones
It feels more like a Persona game than Final Fantasy. Your party is a bunch of high school kids with meme personalities who somehow get tangled up in a save the world story, but honestly I would have preferred if the whole game was just hanging out on the comfy campus playing cards and doing romance subplots. It's tonally all over the place, other Final Fantasy games did a much better job of balancing the small-scale personal stories with the large-scale save the world plot, and balancing the humor with the drama.
Jace Powell
>>Insufferable main character
Wrong
>>Boring as fuck cast (the only cool playable character is Irvine)
Wrong
>>Magic system was gay

>>Can't grind for money. Have to literally wait for mommy to give you lunch money

Wrong
Levi Gomez
>levelscaling and breaking the combat with junctions
They were good ideas, but the devs overlooked how easily the player could break the game if they knew what they were doing. To me, the junction system is really cool though. I know it'll never get remade, but if it did, I think they would rework these two concepts some, to keep the difficulty curve
>drawing/stocking magic
Drawing magic takes an eternity, which is intentional, as they don't want you beefing your characters up too fast, but its still tedious regardless. It also actively discourages using magic, as you need them for junctioning.
>plot conveniences
There are a handful of these (most notably the orphanage reveal.) I don't think they necessarily are too big of a negative, as Ultimecia's character arc revolves around the inability to escape fate, but they could've reworked these scenes to help maintain the suspension of disbelief a bit more.
Those are what I would consider to be the biggest flaws. Still have a lot of love for this game despite them though.
Jack Russell
It was a bit too kino for it's own good.
Logan Jenkins
>Drawing magic takes an eternity, which is intentional, as they don't want you beefing your characters up too fast, but its still tedious regardless. It also actively discourages using magic, as you need them for junctioning.
Refine, card mod
>There are a handful of these (most notably the orphanage reveal.)
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the orphanage scene.
Matthew Green
Everything it was a terrible fucking game
Levi Williams
Okay spoony
Aaron Barnes
>What went wrong?
They refuse to admit that R=U.
Cameron Ramirez
Persona didnt become "the" teenage RPG series until P3. And the cast of FF III is even younger than the cast of VIII.
Henry Cooper
>Refine, card mod
Still pretty tedious grinding out items or cards.
>There is absolutely nothing wrong with the orphanage scene.
Yes, there is. It comes across as a complete asspull, whether it was planned from the start or not. It's mostly used as a means to show why the characters would strive to try and come to a peaceful resolution with Edea, but they could've achieved it in a more organic way.
Wyatt Cooper
This. It gives Ultimecia much needed depth and makes a lot of sense in universe.
