Sakurai will claim that he doesn't approach Smash as a fan, yet it's clear he's a fan of Fire Emblem, SNK in general and Persona 5. If he's not a fan of a series, you better hope the timing is right to get enough content. K. Rool was a fluke, and all his fans, me included were correct for being loud and obnoxious. Basically, Sakurai's not a fan of DK and K. Rool was an obligation for the ballot. I bet Dixie was just as high on the ballot but couldn't get an echo in both Four and Ultimate yet Chrom did.
