I enjoyed the first but I played it years after release for very cheap. (No idea how people can stomach Naughty Dog games at $60 a pop, they practically play themselves.) Still, I found all the hype it got pretty laughable and all of its "CITIZEN KANE OF GAMING" praise did more harm than good and showed why other mediums laugh at kiddie video games.
I may buy the sequel down the road used for dirty cheap just to play it (PS4 isn't my main console but I like to play its exclusives now and again) and form my own opinion on everything outside of the plot leaks. Quite frankly, plot/story in most vidya is fucking retarded to anybody who reads good literature or watches good films, so I never had much stock it it anyways.

When the game came out in 2013 you didn't even have the slightest hint that Ellie was gay, it didn't even make a point to make it about her sexuality or anything like that. The only gay character that was actually pretty well done in the main game was Bill. Then Bruce Straley pretty much stops becoming the main creative director at Naughty Dog, Neil gets control over everything and drops that trash DLC the next summer that makes her gay begins the downfall. This sequal has nothing in common with the first game or why people would who even enjoyed the first game should even like this. The first one was about a man seeking redemption and a little girl seeking salvation. They turned it into gender and sexual politics with an edgy rage and revenge plot.

Literally all the college normies and console forum warriors I knew back in the PS3 days including myself bought the first game because it was a zombie game with cool graphics and it was advertised as such. The fact that it had a simple store presented well enough and good multiplayer made it popular even as a PS4 port. There's literally not one footage of zombies or multiplayer shown yet. None of my irl friends are excited since there are better zombie games out there. No one I know is hyped for this one like the first one was and the stupid story and leak backlash is not helping at all.

I think my enjoyment of the game depends on Abby and how well she is fleshed out. You can make any story sound shitty by bullet pointing it. I will say though that maybe Abby should have been playablenint he first half so you grow with her. Keep her motives foggy and THEN have her kill Joel. The only problem with this is it limits the Joel Ellie interactions throughout the first half
