Naughty Dog fell victim to "woke culture", which essentially makes everyone a hostage to each other. If you are not extremely defensive of all "victim groups" (gays, blacks, trannies, etc), then you are insufficiently pure, and you will suffer negative consequences (bullied, fired, etc). So everyone desperately strives to be as pure as possible in each other's eyes, and no one questions anything. It's a purity spiral that essentially leads to a moronic hivemind.

Add on complete freedom from corporate backers, who think you are the goose that will forever lay the golden egg, and you get... this.

They're doing it the absolute wrong way.
If they really wanted you to play as the villain to Joel/Ellie, you should have played as them from the start of the game. Maybe the intro cutscene could be Joel and Ellie, then jump to this new character and build her up and develop her. Make her likeable. Then spend the game hyping up the villain in a similar way that Dave's group from the first game hyped up Joel and Ellie. But don't make it obvious that the mystery man you are hunting down is Joel. Throw in some rumors and "game of telephone" shit to blur the line. Then do it.

Instead, what they are giving us is:
>You play as Ellie
>You watch as Joel is killed by Abby
>You spend literally the first half of the game hunting down Abby, and possibly killing her group for revenge
>THEN, you switch to control of Abby
>After already watching Abby kill Joel and given a reason to hate her
>After already spending half the game being told to hate her, and tracking her down as Ellie to kill her
>Now you play as Abby
>And then you also kick Ellie's shit in as Abby

Literally none of the last half as Abby sounds enjoyable. How do you expect people to react when the character they will instantly hate for killing Joel, and spend half the game hunting down, is all of a sudden who you have to play as? That's so unappealing. You have to try really fucking hard to redeem her and make the player give a shit about her. And from the sounds of the leaked chapter list where one is described as "save-the-children," it sounds like they are doing their best to pull whatever shitty Mary-Sue shit they can so they can straight up tell the player "Look she's really good, she's a real hero. There's no reason to hate her!" in the shittiest and most unimaginative way possible.

That's why this shit fucking blows.
