Why does everyone hate the Source Engine?
Why does everyone hate the Source Engine?
I don't
Source is pretty clunky and outdated
Source 2 is based
Outdated as hell and bitch the work with. Allegedly even the engine maintainers themselves hate it.
It's old and janky and completely made obsolete by Unity and Unreal. Additionally, any game you make on the engine has to be sold as a mod to a Valve game whereas with Unity/Unreal you actually own what you create. Therefore, if you make a game on Source in 2k20, you are a certified cuck.
Name even one game made on Source. Go on. I'll wait.
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines
^ This. Source engine that you're able to mod right now is .bsp based, the same format ID tech used for Doom 1 and Unreal Tournament back in the late 90's-early 2000's. Their map editor is still .bsp based, though flexible you're still having to do the same fucking tedious methods the modders in the early 2000's needed to do to optimize a map properly. Source 2 promises mesh-based (plug and play building models) and interactive terrain mapping (reminiscent to Warcraft 3 World Editor) which would BE REALLY NICE RIGHT NOW since it's almost 17 years after Source 1 first released.
It Valve really needs to get their shit together by incorporating the plug-in + visual coding systems Unreal and Unity already had for the past decade. Melee weapon tracing would be nice too (Chivalry medieval warfare melee mechanics). Modders are still waiting on Source 2 to be fully delivered. I really REALLY want to remake the Empires source mod and Dystopia in source 2.
>any game you make on the engine has to be sold as a mod to a Valve game
How is Titanfall a mod
Because it's outdated?
