How do you think the sales and critical reception will be of Last of Us 2. In my opinion it will be just like the pokemon SwSh fiasco, the very vocal minority will raise hell, but the majority don’t give a shit, and the game makes bank, and of course the critical reception will be licking all over the boot.

Gameplay is shit plus audiences just cannot connect with the characters on two fronts:
- they see the character they thought they were gonna play get brutally beaten and murdered
- having forced to play as a character that not only emerged out of nowhere with very little emotional investments made and then having to play the said character that murdered your favorite characters
Players can not comprehend the act of “switching protagonist/antagonist” ESPECIALLY when it has not been foreshadowed nor is it justified beyond just pushing the plot along. In a gameplay sense what is it about Abby that is different than Ellie and how is that difference even going to matter in the grand design? If the answer is “she’s just another body you reside in so you can see her side” then it’s terrible writing and terrible game design masked as “subverted expectation”
This isn’t Citizen Kane level of excellence, this is writing level of a high school edgelord who just wants to leave you finished with a “huuuuuuuh?” on your face. I never asked for TLOU2 to be like this.
They could have stuck with a more predictable story about how peace was once again broken with marauding raiders and Joel and Ellie have to reconcile after being drifted apart due to what went down in TLOU and end with Joel OR Ellie making the sacrifice that they did not make last time around so their character arc is completed full of meanings and redemptions and it would still be better than this mess of a story and narrative design.

The first game’s gameplay was between 6-7. It had its moments but it’s not that cracked up to be. What really made the first one shine was the ending. It was a good example of “you didn’t see that coming”, I found myself having to think about the ending on many levels because it was well executed.
