Final Fantasy VI took 1 year to develop, it still remains one of the most revered and beloved jRPGs, a masterpiece Final Fantasy XV took 10 years to develop, it was quickly forgotten after release due to being shit
Why nobody at Square pushes for more modest projects like Octopath Traveler? Imagine if FFXVI had its graphics and the rest of the budget went into things that matter like battle system, story, amount of content and art design?
That's why OP said: > Why nobody at Square pushes for more modest projects like Octopath Traveler?
Hunter Carter
Maybe not Octopath Traveller. Final Fantasy tends to have twists and turns in the story, Octopath is a bit too formulaic.
I just wonder why they don't go for the FFIVDS approach.
Asher Carter
>Final Fantasy VI took 1 year to develop and it shows considering just how broken the gameplay was
Nathan Lewis
They used to copypaste the same models and code for several games. Because FF is huge and will sell more than any other minor game, even if that game is better.
Jaxson James
>I just wonder why they don't go for the FFIVDS approach. Because they are retarded
Alexander Garcia
As technology marches on, so do the demands for games to be bigger and better than before. FF prides itself on being the cutting edge example of what modern graphics could look like, to the point that it actually serves as a detriment to them since they tend to compromise game and narrative design in the process. From the interviews I’ve read, the development cycles for FF13 and FF15 respectively were hell since they constantly had to make changes and revisions in order to compete with the current market trends at the time. On top of this, it also doesn’t help that FF is the definition of an AAA JRPG franchise so if course normalfags are going to expect them to go above and beyond when it comes to the next product. They’re more focused on making the next big epic game instead of just making a cohesive product. Hence why we got all of those advertisements, ads, and multimedia projects for FF13, FF15, and FF7R respectively.
>They used to copypaste the same models and code for several games. They still do this. It just doesn't help because they spend millions of dollars commissioning clothing designers to make outfits for their main characters.
Liam Howard
This. Final Fantasy is literally too big for its own good.
Jaxson Walker
maybe it's time to admit that eye candy model is unsustainable and push for cutting edge graphics only leaves the game underdeveloped in other aspects
Cooper Morris
Why won't they just do FF5 and FF6 over like they did for FF4 complete collection?
Tyler Gonzalez
I think it’s possible for cutting edge graphics and good game design to exist alongside each other. DMC5, for example, pushed the series forward when it came to more realistic models and environments while still maintaining the aspects that made the series so popular to begin with. However, DMC’s game philosophy and design is much different than FF’s so I’m not sure if my example is a good one.
Luke Scott
>FF4 complete collection You mean make a shitty continuation like the after years?
Jacob Walker
It is feasible for a short 10hr game like DMC, FF entry has to have at least 30-60hr of content.
Jace Perry
Yeah, that’s what I meant. Same for RE2 Remake as well. I guess it just depends on the genre and priorities in mind.
Hudson Gonzalez
He probably means a competent 2D remake like the PSP version of FFIV
Juan Evans
Nah, I just mean a high quality remake of the original game, without the shitty flat sprites or hideous UI of the iPhone/Steam versions.
Cooper Cook
>Octopath Traveler >shilling acquire shit You are the reason jrpgs suck now.
Benjamin Gomez
FF is a big name franchise. It's expected of them to be AAA All the time with "mainline". Atleast is how they see it, I think. Really, most of their problems are on managing big projects. XV trying to be a multimedia franchise on its own, the waifufag trilogy, VIIR reseting development. While big stuff always gets more people looking and buying than smaller projects, I feel like they forget the cost on making such projects can sunk them. Wasn't the VII remake an emergency plan for SE?
Angel Ross
why are some games that are rushed considered some of the best of all time? how the fuck do time constraints enhance some people's creative abilities
I mean Majora's Mask literally re-used assets from ocarina and there are still arguments to this day which one is better.
John Davis
It depends on the game and devs. XV was simultaneously both rushed and delayed which led to a huge mess when it came to the amount it had when it first released. By contrast, Fallout New Vegas is highly beloved on this board and on certain circles and it was rushed to hell and back.
Strong identity. You can't compare what MM does to any other game in the franchise, since it does it's own stuff to set itself apart from the others.
Eli Torres
They should be making new games, not shitty remakes.
Jaxon Cruz
*amount of content* Christ, I am tired.
Nicholas Howard
they didn't require entire 3D engines and particle systems
Michael Martinez
Because such a modest effort would be too small for the egomaniac that is Nomura.
Kevin Wood
FF6 is unironically the worst SNES FF Mystic Quest does not count
Mason Murphy
can you imagine if square had a brain and saw the popularity of user created content and made an octopath traveler where players could make their own games with that engine and share them
Samuel Long
Get your dick split
Juan Moore
>REmake FFVI
Please don't. I love that game and would rather not see it butchered.
Ethan Stewart
>Final Fantasy VI took 1 year to develop And it was a rushed, buggy, unfinished mess, whoa, who would have thought that a generation of 80's/90's kids and retards with no standards would still like it? >Why nobody at Square pushes for more modest projects like Octopath Traveler? They do, see all the Tokyo RPG Factory games, Octopath, BD, SaGa, Mana etc, and you people punctually bitch that they're low budget games then go back bitching at AAA games because they're too bloated. What the fuck do you Final Fantasy retards even want? To get your childhood back? You're still manchildren now 20 years later, it won't make any difference.
In Majora’s Mask, the reuse of assets allowed them to put focus on developing innovative game mechanics as well as interesting writing and level design. It also helps that the game that it’s based from is already incredible to begin with.
Lincoln Wilson
because people, and by people I mean the public, and by the public I mean normies, want good looking games, nobody fucking plays/played octopath traveler user
and it turns out 75% of a AAA budgeted game goes into the graphics, and for good reason, it costs a lot of money to make all the textures and models and (especially) animations
so even if by comparison, it would net them better benefits and go back to making 'smaller' games (and more of them), the scale is completely incomparable, why would they care about getting a few millions of benefits by making octopath traveler-like games if they can make hundreds of millions making big remakes and ff15 shit?
this is a completely different world and the industry is nothing like it was before, ff6 took a year and was made by a small ass team in some shitty building, now square enix is one of the biggest vidya corps on the planet, so big they're not even just dabling into vidyas anymore
trust me, if they could make more money by making 'good' games (whatever that means) then they would do that, but the truth is that this isn't a thing in the modern world
>why aren't they raising the budget just a bit to have better story/characters/gameplay then?? why would they?
though I haven't played any ff game since the original 13 because this one showed me for real that the squaresoft magic was completely gone, I would say that the gameplay/combat system in ff7 remake look extremely appealing and much better than anything they've done before, I don't see why anyone would complain about it >muh turn based system this isn't appealing to anyone but autists, just play pokemon then
Daniel Perry
>buggy mess that is a point. didn't like ALL the mainline FF games have huge bugs? VI is infamous for the magic defense bug alone
