Final Fantasy VI took 1 year to develop, it still remains one of the most revered and beloved jRPGs, a masterpiece Final Fantasy XV took 10 years to develop, it was quickly forgotten after release due to being shit
Why nobody at Square pushes for more modest projects like Octopath Traveler? Imagine if FFXVI had its graphics and the rest of the budget went into things that matter like battle system, story, amount of content and art design?
That's why OP said: > Why nobody at Square pushes for more modest projects like Octopath Traveler?

Maybe not Octopath Traveller. Final Fantasy tends to have twists and turns in the story, Octopath is a bit too formulaic.
I just wonder why they don't go for the FFIVDS approach.

They used to copypaste the same models and code for several games. Because FF is huge and will sell more than any other minor game, even if that game is better.

As technology marches on, so do the demands for games to be bigger and better than before. FF prides itself on being the cutting edge example of what modern graphics could look like, to the point that it actually serves as a detriment to them since they tend to compromise game and narrative design in the process. From the interviews I’ve read, the development cycles for FF13 and FF15 respectively were hell since they constantly had to make changes and revisions in order to compete with the current market trends at the time. On top of this, it also doesn’t help that FF is the definition of an AAA JRPG franchise so if course normalfags are going to expect them to go above and beyond when it comes to the next product. They’re more focused on making the next big epic game instead of just making a cohesive product. Hence why we got all of those advertisements, ads, and multimedia projects for FF13, FF15, and FF7R respectively.
>They used to copypaste the same models and code for several games. They still do this. It just doesn't help because they spend millions of dollars commissioning clothing designers to make outfits for their main characters.
