They're both great, I also have a soft nostalgic spot for Tekken 1

I noticed this in a lot of fighting games. One of the last couple Mortal Kombats for example, the character models all had the exact same physique with different heads and clothes, which was totally ill fitting for most of the characters.

I hate video games.

Tekken 1 was edgy deviant Virtua Fighter

Tekken 2 was better than 1 by miles, in gameplay, salvaging the plot, and adding more moves and playstyles

Tekken 3 was a more consolidated cast, removed moonjumps, bettered juggles, but had a lot of OP characters like Jin, Heihachi, and Ogre,

Tekken 4 was kino storytelling but shitty unfair walled stages and had a lackluster cast by comparison along with Heihachi in a diaper as the final boss for some reason

Tekken 5 was peak fighting games. Amazing story, characters weren't too flanderized yet, gameplay was the pinnacle for 3D, and there was plenty of content for the game in arcade, Devil Within, Story, .vs, online, and more.

Tekken 6 was just a graphical update and balance patch to tekken 5 but started to really flanderize all the non-mishima characters to the point that everyone was a joke. Plotlines were breaking down and the "world war" narrative really breaks apart the story by jumping the shark. Also the main villain is just sorta inserted with no really meaning when you play 7 (The Hachijo are all really Egyptians?)

Tekken 7 has a fucking amazing story(except Akuma) that is able to actually staple together 6's shitty story by focusing on Heihachi and Kazuya's history. All other characters outside of the "story" are now flanderized to the point of being cartoon characters and unreemable. Gameplay is sharpened from 6 and Tag, Rage arts add a new element, and every patch works to better hone out the game.

Man I feel old. I remember when Tekken 2 was the pinnacle of 3D fighting games and how 1996 in general was a year for completely annihilating the games that came in 1995.

Nobody thought tekken 2 could be topped at the time (street fighter autists were too busy seething over the concept of 3D).

It finally justifies why Heihachi did what he did, conveys the vengeance plot of 2, and finally caps off the original drama of the series while using elements of the world built in the last 6 games. Outside of the asspull of Akuma, it was pretty badass.

My only qualm with the story is that the Hachijo are somehow related to Azazel which makes little sense and that Tekken 6 makes no sense. Jin killed Azazel but that didn't stop the devil bloodline at all, so what was the point?

Also that Kazumi's actions are a self-fulfilling prophecy, because Heihachi would have never become a world dominating despot if she wouldn't have been the one to tell him that and try and kill him ruining his perfect tranquil life.

But the ending with Kazuya was pretty kino.

The arcade version is fun. Kazuya will fuck you up unlike the retarded console AI.

t7 is just ugly. Tag 2 while a commerical flop was extremely pretty. Especially in arcades. Tekken 7 console doesn't even have the same lighting as the arcades where it looks way better. Fuck this port.

I can't put my finger on it but I love Tekken 4. like tekken 2 has the most SOUL and Tekken Tag recaptures it, but 4 has this....thing to it that I can't explain. It's more "modern" of the older tekkens, but still has this feel to it that I cannot get from any of the modern tekkens

The arcade version was at least. I don't know what happened with the console ports but the resolution was WAY lower.

It is the black sheep of the series.
It had the most "unique" ideas. It's too bad they never found a way to balance it. Tekken 7 was a nice "advancement of the stages" but it's really not the same. It's also probably the most grounded out of all of them.

They keep changing it each season and it's annoying because you can't choose from them. I liked the s1 menu the best and you can't even jukebox on pc.
