That's what I've been trying to tell people for fucking years.
It's not just the loli that makes 3 better than 2. The gadgets in 2 are the epitome of "let's just add shit because its a sequel". They don't have any practical purpose outside of the obstacles that were made specifically for them. They weren't thought out at all.
Also the soundtrack is soulless and the level theming is boring in comparison to 1 and 3.

2 had a lot of missteps from the composer changes to art style and even the dub. Even so it did a lot good like introducing the Freaky Monkey Five; it was a mixed bag of things.

I've seen PCSX2 referred to as the "Ape Escape 3 emulator", so yea they emulate pretty much perfectly.
Just make sure you download 1.5, not 1.4

I just remember I had a demo of this game a while back from one of those play station magazines. Had a lot of fun with it but never got the full game.
Maybe I'll try to emulate it one day.
