Why did the stealth genre die out? Splinter Cell and Thief are dead, and Metal Gear isnt stealth anymore. Youve got Payday 2 with pretty great stealth elements, but it's not really a big game.
And shooters with occasional hamfisted stealth elements dont count.
Why did the stealth genre die out? Splinter Cell and Thief are dead, and Metal Gear isnt stealth anymore...
holy shit
and to answer your question, it's because sneaking around isn't fun
Roastie survived, dogbro was kill
>Payday 2 with pretty great stealth elements
If you think Payday 2 has good stealth you're either a retard or the kind of spastic that only plays on easy and doesn't understand just how fucking retarded the AI actually is in that game.
>shit animal
>dogbro
furrys deserve the gas chamber
Explain the pic
dont tread on me
Mountain lion (seen hiding in the picture) mauled the father and dog to death while the mother and child escape.
Is this one of those memes where everyone pretends that a lanyard is a snake and everyone freaks out? Because there being so many people who are stupid enough to think that the camo key carrier or dog leash or whatever is a snake is really affecting my faith in humanity.
Stop spreading this misinformation. What really happened was the cactus behind them was a carnivorous variant and mauled the dog.
zoomers don't have enough patience
That's what makes it fun though.
AI cant detect bodies as long as the head is out of sight
Did she died?
Below the womans right hand.
what's that? a snake?
Yeah a rattler. She lived, but it also bit the dog who died
This photo posted on Reddit by user gwtrull seems normal enough at first glance. But if you look below the woman’s right hand you can see a startled snake lunging upwards, about to bite the woman on the arm. The Reddit user who claimed to be a friend of the family seen in the photo said that the woman made a full recovery however the dog, who was also bitten by the snake died shortly after.
>moving snake in perfect focus
Yep that's a fact right there
>a leash or key lanyard is a snake
God I fucking hate zoomers so goddamn much
lmao what a retarded faggot
what a fucking moron.
i'm glad i've lived in both the city and the country. but i feel even if i'd never left cities i would still understand what i'm looking at here.
I think it's mainly 2 reasons:
1. AAA games have become a mishmash of borrowed elements from different genres. These days it feels like every game has some RPG-lite elements and in some cases even some simplistic stealth mechanics. Pure stealth games aren't as appealing to the masses and publishers don't take risks.
2.Lack of AA games. It's either indie or tripple-A for the most part.
Odd that you list Payday 2 as a game with great stealth. Any game that relies on just 2 states of visual detection (undetected and detected) are very simplistic and limited. Doesn't matter if you ran in the cone of vision of a guard where he clearly saw something, if that meter doesn't fill up to full you're invisible, he doesn't react at all.
I'm playing through Thief Gold right now since I always wanted to play it (longitme Splinter Cell fan and it felt weird that I never played any of the thief games) but god damn some of the levels are a chore.
I really dislike the levels where it's mostly monsters and shit like that but the ones that involve mostly humans have been pretty fun.
Looking forward to trying out Thief 2 once I'm done with this one.

Transition to 7th gen of console saw budgets increase exponentially, as a result the return required on games increased exponentially.
And whilst the overall numbers of gamers and potential market did increase with 7th gen (enter dudebros), it wasn't a market that was particularly interested in slow, methodical and patience driven games and so what was already a niche genre became an even smaller percentage of the market.
Just looking at the sales and reception of Chaos Theory, arguably the best stealth game ever created and then the sales of reception of Assassins Creed just two years later, it becomes pretty evident that the market as a whole wanted shallow, open world cinematic shitfests with press X to win controls and not tightly handcrafted and mechanically refined masterpieces, which is why we now have 20+ AssCreed titles.
On the upside some user is working on a Tenchu spiritual successor and it looks dope.
snek
what do you mean by "user"? it's an indie game?
I mean some random user (presumably an actual game dev) started making a Tenchu game during a Tenchu thread a week or so ago, the thread was up for almost 12 hours and he came back towards the end and posted a bunch of webms of what he'd already done, shit was hilarious.
that's actually pretty cool.
>ywn have a beautiful wife and children cuz you're an undesirable autistic beta male
why even live anons?
I don't know, dude, she looks like she loves a bbc if you know what I mean.
>Metal Gear isnt stealth anymore
Words of truth. I was so fucking disappointed that the S+ rank was not dependant on stealth, but purely on the speed with which you can finish.
you should play death stranding
OBSESSED
>not knowing how cameras work.
In daylight like this when there would presumably be a very fast shutter speed, it is entirely plausible that a lunging snake could be captured with minimal blurring. Also everything in the frame is in focus retard. It's a wide shot.
Stealth games are dead for the same reason that tactical shooters and immersive sims are: they're big on level design an AI and that shit is kryptonite to modern developers and audiences
