Benefits of emulation over original hardware:

Benefits of emulation over original hardware:
>supports resolutions higher than native, custom post-processing, fixes for things like PS1 jitter
>accepts any input method you want, not just one corporate-approved gamepad model
>lets you mess around with speed-up, save states, rewind etc
>guaranteed it will still be here tomorrow, won't spontaneously shit itself like a 30 year old console
>access to decades worth of free games
>makes tendies fume

Did I miss anything?

Cons:
>no soul

>makes tendies fume
Absolutely based. Fuck tendies.

I don't believe in emulation

I have nothing against emulation except for games that you're playing for the first time, then you should play on the original hardware but if you're just trying to replay some old ps1 game or wathever go for it

Negatives
>illegal

That's enough to persuade me to stay away and purchase old consoles and games.

Yes, please jump through a bunch of hoops to play games for the first time before you click play on your computer.

I've played plenty of old PS1 and SNES games on emulator first and I never even saw a real hardware.
I guess you're just going to have to deal with it. :^)

fpbp

it just doesn't FEEL right

This, but unironically.

That said, I'd rather emulate than litter my home with junk just so I am able to say I played on reeeeeaaaalllll hardware.

Can backup saves, even to cloud storage.

Yeah user let me just buy a 25 year old console second hand off eBay, wait for it to ship over with the game that the company no longer sells yet still maintains copyright of just so they can still sue people for trying to redistribute, a crt to go with it, and change my entire room layout to accommodate all this before I'm "allowed" to try the game. That makes much more sense than downloading a ROM for free

>That makes much more sense than downloading a ROM for free
Glad we agree.

You don't actually agree, that guy was being sarcastic. You're welcome, I know it's not easy living your life with autism.

>achievements
what the fuck?

Is this Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei?
I want to make my way through the old MT games soon and am curious

Does anyone know the best settings for Breath of Fire IV on Beetle HW?

Pretty sure we agree, buddy. You're the one throwing a fit.

You don't need the original hardware when emulation has become this accurate.

emulators aren't illegal.
downloading a game that you don't own is illegal.
having a backup rom/iso of games YOU OWN is legal.

that's why all emulators site don't offer games or bios files, but they tell you how to dump your games files for legal purposes.

learn the difference.

No one gives a flying fuck about you pirating videogames unless you live in some depressing dystopia like the US.

Yes.

make me.

I prefer original hardware, I bought a N64 just because I hated the emulator, but I am not above emulating at all. I would love to own a physical copy of SH1, but I ain't paying over 60$ for a PS1 game
I'm all for playing on original hardware, but I'm also for not getting price gouged by some faggot thinking it should be accepted to charge the price of a modern game. It's the main reason why I want modern consoles to have BC, just so they can sell them on their online stores.

emulators are better for the most part. Going back to og hardware you really miss all the emulation perks like the speed up button

Ozone > XMB

Get with the times granpa

i prefer orignal hardware but softmodded

What is even the benefit of using RetroArch over emulators that are dedicated to one system?

Glowing Reason Nigger

>pros
Unified controller settings for everything
Exclusive features like run-ahead for less latency
So cross platform you wouldn't believe, it runs on everything

>cons
Bloated
No mouse-centric interface

Unified interface, I haven't followed emulation in years but back in the day the retroarch forks of emulators had unique features and fixes on them, like mednafen-psx had jitter removal and high res support in RA. Also had that frankenstein n64 emulator that was supposed to be the one to finally deliver us from n64 emu hell, don't know how that turned out in the end.

yeah, you missed big fucking disappointment when game-breaking bug occurs near the end. Looking at you, King's Field 4 on pcsx2. And no, fiddling with emu settings won't help.

The only time that ruined a game for me was Star Ocean 1 way back on ZSNES.

>100 years from now almost all current games will be forgotten
>1000 years from now nobody will know wtf super mario or ff7 even was

Original hardware when possible, emulation when it isn't.

>Why yes, I am a law-abiding citizen. What gave it away?

>implying games won't continue to be remade and remastered on an a regular basis for the rest of gaming history

Your weak and simpering nature.

>implying 1000 years from now society will still exist
