But I use a kusarigama

If you are just starting, builds don't matter, the weapon and armor scaling will quickly outpace the set bonuses. Try to get 10 in magic at least, onmyo includes a large amount of buffs that are all pretty powerful.

>Kusa
Fucking filthy disgusting ninjas

I'd like to see Sais get a go at it

Daily reminder that the hatchets are the best weapons

No, 100% elemental reduction prevents all build ups, or at least it did in nioh 1.

That grapple was personal, dumb cat.

I could FEEL the force that went into that!

>no thrusts
>no reach
>no hand guards
>no pommel strikes
>no finesse
Hatchets are okay vs wooden shields/padded linen armor but let's face it, swords and polearms are the backbone of formation fighting for a reason.

I'm rusty as fuck from not playing it for about 2 weeks. Keep trying to dodge with square instead of X, fucking AC: Odyssey muscle memory

Just unga bunga through it!

Same for me a couple of days or so ago, but with FF7R. Not so much dodging wrong that is the issue as just forgetting certain things or remembering other things wrong.

>>>>>>>>>onryoki

I love big chain and ball boy

I'm about to train with my sword if you know what I mean!

Best punching bag, soul core, and best boy

Reposting my dumb question here
So I should avoid the super heavy stuff unless I'm building specifically towards it, the Sohaya set seems pretty perfect for me. Right now my stats are pretty even across the board 10 con, 19 heart, 12 courage, 15 stamina, 20 str, and 12 skill. I'm kinda just fucking around with all the weapons so I haven't found a dump stat aside from str.

What should I be building towards as odachi/hatchet mains (with some playing around with the other weapons)

Lorewise Onryoki is actually pretty saddening. It's not so much a he as a they. Forming when groups of people are slaughtered in unison, the enraged souls band together. It's why if you pay attention to their bodily skin there's actually tons of different eyes and such.

Oh God. I just started Nioh and got up to Nue. Giving me flashbacks to Awesome Gaiden. After dying 15 times I'm starting to see what I have to do.

git gud?

I'm sorry, there was way too much happening at once, he had eyes open so I probably could have stunned him for you...I gotta pop out for about 45~ minutes, I'll be back!

It's okay, better me than you! But boy did that get tense. And okay, stay safe!

Worrying about sets in your 1st play through is a bad idea, since item levels will out class all offensive benefits of sets.
Anyway, Odachi and hatchets do not share even a single scaling stat, so there's not even a single good stat dump. Instead, as you are just starting, I'll recommend an even leveling of stats to 20, when the softcaps kick in. This will allow you to use all weapons, experiment with all ninjutsu/onmyo skills, and wear most medium armor and some light armor at B agility.
In terms of sets though, I prefer a full veterans armor which is an easily craftable medium armor. It should be craftable at the forge, so it should be easy to keep its level up to par with item drops by crafting new pieces. This "set" provides ~30% damage reduction when attacking, which is generally the only time you should be getting hit. Additionally, you can add onryoki soul core and innosasu GS you can bump up the damage reduction to ~50%.
If you really want to though, sohaya set is the beginner set that gives okay attribute bonus against yokais which is mostly what you will be fighting. There are actually 2 sohaya sets, one light, and one medium, they have the same set bonuses, so keep that in mind when equipping them.
The /vg/ nioh thread has quite a few assorted guides that is more useul on NG+, but you may wish to look them up.

Thanks for the huge write up man. I've never ever touched magic or ninjutsu, it always just felt like a wasted stat to me since I never use consumables. I mean sometimes but I always end up saving it for the boss.

Last run for me for now Friendy. Try not getting grabbed again before Doll gets back

>I've never ever touched magic or ninjutsu, it always just felt like a wasted stat to me since I never use consumables.
Bad idea, onmyo buffs are generally very powerful, carnage ives 20~30% attack up, steel reduces damage by ~20%, and barrier basically nullifies the ki regen penalty from low agility. There are also other onmyo spells that are important for specific set ups.

Ninjutsu is the offensive counterpart to onmyo and does a ton of damage if properly spec, even without, you can get useful sneaking skills for when you want to run through a stage. Also backstabing unaware opponents is a skill in the ninjutsu tree. Finally there's a quick change scroll that works as a 1 up, recovering 30%hp on a fatal hit.

Both jutsu when equipped restock at shrines, and the only way to level up their proficiency to unlock dojo missions and get access to advance spells is to use the them, so spam away.

There won't be much left to grab at this rate.. But still, anything to protect Dollface-user! Thanks for putting up with us!

Any updates on the revenants in Side Missions?

The importance of magic/ninjutsu is you can dissect dangerous targets quickly and at range. That and the astounding buffs/debuffs magic provides. Throwing two kunai when an abberant soldier sniper spawns alongside 2 medium yokai in a gauntlet is good shit. And if you like the kusarigama or switch glaive than you can build it into full damage and have a chuckle. Nioh 2 is notably better about ninjutsu than Nioh 1, although I do miss rolling around at the speed of sound with bat weapon and how many humanoid bosses had zero stun-lock protection.

AHEM.

Tonfa Hanzo.I didn't believe you until i decided i wanted some divine wooden tonfas and decided to farm him. Oh my goodness gracious no.

Those all do sound nice. Is there like a simple "here this is what's useful" guide out there?

>no reach
Literally the longest range in the game

You need to train more

Question about bows, do the damage bonus effects work ONLY for the bow or is it damage from all sources? And if it does work for melee too, which is more effective for Kato, Unarmored, Agility or Equipment Lightness?

Fuma Ninja gear has an innate +shuriken/kunai damage, you can temper for that and ninjutsu power on most pieces, you can get +shuriken/+ninjutsu/+bombs on gloves and accessories. Some soul cores and guardian spirits can have +anima on ranged hit. Flying Kato(ninja dojo missions) is Ninja set with a Ninjutsu to damage bonus.

I like to use shuriken, kunai, storm kunai, fire bombs and shrapnel bombs as my default. Cheapest set-up for most projectiles. Dealing damage levels ninjutsu to feed you skill points so as you go through levels the first time you can recover from tight spots by just blowing enemies away. Storm kunai are great against any large enemy because when you're close enough you get multiple hits. If you are truly desperate to first clear an area or boss you can infinite-kite with the throwing coin but it's so slow as to be dishonorable. The ninja dojo missions will let you try a few items out too. I'm not sure if the AI can actually respond well to ground traps at all, they seem like they'll run into them every time. The enormous shrapnel bomb is fun but costs a ton of preparation.

From there you have must haves like the 1-up scroll, speed run scrolls, attack pills. The only things I've had trouble using are status debuff shuriken like poison/paralysis since the number of them you need to land in a short period of time clashes with how many you can actually carry.

Note that ninjutsu isn't a substitute for learning fights although it can be very fun to see how far it goes. I usually play an Agi A quick character with lots of projectile cores, though I can fight bosses squarely with each weapon type, especially as I NG+ and get my 120k in each proficiency. Nioh 1 had a very simple set-up where you have basically infinite ninjutsu, you just popped a very fast recharge living weapon to refill 33% of it. These shenanigans seem gone in Nioh 2!
