Developers who fail to kowtow appropriately to this group find themselves ostracized, and their games not only fail to achieve awards, they also don't even get covered as often if ever in relevant media.

However, when you praise someone just for taking a risk and doing something unpredictable, and ignore the quality of the product, you're doing them a disservice in multiple ways.
First, you're not helping them improve their craft. They just think they nailed it and don't need to make an extra effort next time.
Secondly, you're eliminating the entire "risk" by praising them unconditionally. It's no longer a risk when doing something even slightly away from predictability gets lauded just for not being cookie-cutter crap.

Tell me if I got this right. The two playable characters are a lesbian and a (presumably) male to female transgender person. Trans kills the straight male protagonist of the first game, and it seems so far that the leaks are implying you are supposed to sympathize with them at the end (because the first games protagonist killed "her" father). There's also a sideplot where one of the lesbians is pregnant and her ex-bf (the father) tags along with her and her new gf for most of the game. The reason the story seems like a massive let down to me is that it's just a big shallow revenge porn with a misanthropic conclusion. The first game was revenge porn too, but you were left with a positive outlook for humanity going forward. I guess it's setting up for a sequel so this is the "dark middle chapter", but it doesn't seem very engaging and certainly kills any interest for a third game. This has been the structure of trilogies for ages but it relies on you following the same group of characters you engaged with in the first part of the story and I don't believe naughty dog can "subvert" that tradition succesfully. That being said, the leaks are still just some cutscenes (although important ones as they contain part of the ending and big twists), and so the game may not be as bad as it seems right now. I won't be playing it though that's for sure, there's zero chance it can be as entertaining as this shit storm the the leaks have caused

It should've been this: Joel takes in a 2nd daughter on top of Ellie. The man can't help himself. The new girl is an even bigger brat than Ellie. Ellie is now "the good girl" by comparison. There's a line near the end of the game where the new girl, finally acknowledging her bond with Joel, says, "You're like my dad, except we met when you killed my mom." (Oh yeah, the game begins with you playing as this girl living with her single mother when Joel, passing by, kills the mother in self-defense and then takes in the girl out of guilt). The series ends with Joel dying peacefully with three adopted young women by his bedside.

The tranny part is unconfirmed but honestly looking like it came straight out of that South Park episode I don't think it would surprise anyone.
