When did Final Fantasy stop being the definitive JRPG and Persona take the title?
When did Final Fantasy stop being the definitive JRPG and Persona take the title?
I dunno, hasn't happened yet.
ask that again after it actually happens not before
Based P5R will win GOTY
Persona has a great fighting game while Final Fantasy does not
based Yu absolutely mogging the other protags
I thought it was already established that P5 is massively overrated and not even as good as previous Persona games.
I'm not even a massive FF fan. I've only played 7 and 7R, while on the other hand I've beaten every Persona except for Eternal Punishment. I'm just saying it's kinda hard for modern Persona to be the definitive JRPG when half the game is actually a visual novel dating sim instead of a JRPG.
When persona 3 came out and let people self insert and hang out with friends and get girlfriends.
Lord knows how many people have played P5 as their first and only SMT game.
I ship the male MC from Persona 3 with the female MC from Persona 3 Portable and there's nothing you niggers can do about it
>tfw im in October and I don't want to continue because I know the game will end
>Purseowner thinking his game is the best
Persona games are shit in terms of Megaten games
Even shit like SMT4 shits all over most of the combat in p3, p4 and p5 and not to mention Apocalypse which has even greater combat
How you can defend P5 after the second palace
>BUT LE WAIFUS AND MUH SCHOOL LIFE!!
fucking HOW
>I thought it was already established that P5 is massively overrated and not even as good as previous Persona games.
maybe by contrarians on Yas Forums, they’re a minority though so their opinions hardly matter
When Persona 5 Royal came out.
>after the second palace
Uhh I don't know, maybe there's a whole fucking story with the MC that still is being explained. It's like you've never played it.
Sad.
First palace was the best. The writing takes a nosedive after the autist everyone jerks off to joins the party. Even the other characters' IQ seems to drop. Hell, how can anyone defend Morgana's faggotry?
By the time I got to Futaba's palace I was forcing myself to play the game.
>When did Final Fantasy stop being the definitive JRPG and Persona take the title?
FF7R will take at least the remainder of the decade, or 2025 to finish, and Atlus is apparently incompetent at keeping fans informed, or developing games in a proper schedule in general. If any JRPG series is the new FF, it's unironically Xenoblade. Monolith Soft knows what they're doing, the series is continually expanding, and the games are released on a consistent interval. Spew whatever buzzwords, or non arguments you want, but it's honestly the truth. If Persona, and SMT combined dropped titles at a more consistent rate, I'd definitely say it would be the definitive JRPG series these days, but Atlus loves dicking around with boring Persona spinoffs for years on end.
>Uhh I don't know, maybe there's a whole fucking story with the MC
abslute false
>3rd palace is "dude lets kill da mafia lmao"
>4 is dude my daughter is a hikikomori
>5 is aids
it was just a series of coicidences that happen and dont get me started with the bald man and pancakes man
Just admit you defend the mediocrity because of muh waifus
I'm playing Persona 5 Royal for the first time right now, and goddamn, it is so good. It's got so much going on at all times between Phantom Thieves shenanigans, and all the social shit, it never gets old. I'm about 60-ish hours deep right now, and haven't felt a lull since I started. The fact that with the Royall additions, I'm not even at the halfway point yet has got me hyped. Good shit.
I'm thinking that when I'm done with this, I'm going to jump into the Yakuza series, since I bought the entirety of it recently, and it seems to be more of that comfy Japan slice of life simulator.
Are any Persona games on/coming to Switch? I heard P5R is a maybe.
It hit me the other day that my biggest problem with Persona 5 is the lack of ability to get immersed in the game. The awful framing device that comes back during every social link and major plot point, the overly draw out intro, and the obscenely lengthy and repetitive dialog sections and under-developed side characters that make the story feel stagnant ruin the ability to get lost in the game.
The worst aspect of the games though by far has to be the social links/stats increases/day of the week shit that has not gotten better since P3. I don't want to have to have a guide open to know how i have to respond to some obscure trivia question or what answers actually the right one to say to a character. It's also not interesting from an RPG perspective, my answers to social links should actually impact the way they play out instead of their just being wrong answers that stop me from getting bonus affinity(even link reversals in p3 and p4 were a step in the right direction).
Hopefully in the next game they can at least give us plot/characters that are as fleshed out as p2/p3 and maybe cut-down on some of the repetitive shit.
When Final Fantasy stopped being turn based.
SMT 4 is pure RNG with fights either going in your favour or demolishing you. Once you get reflect spells you can easily cheese most of the bosses.
SMT 4 also has a really cheap look to it with reusing old art assets and the new artists looking like shit.
>SMT 4 is pure RNG
git
gud
It took Final Fantasy six to seven entries, depending on how you see it, to be a global phenomenon. Persona is on track with high praise in its most recent entry. As long as the next game in the series is a worthy successor, then will I say it has killed modern FF and taken its crown. Square's cranking out more FF7Rs though so tough luck. That's total brand recognition that Persona just doesn't have yet.
lol
>Already established
In your fucking dreams maybe
Really fucking wish that Atlus would port the older Persona games to something other than dead consoles.
Nocturne and Strange Journey were also better.
No ezpz knockdowns or all out attacks to help blow through shit
There isn't anything wrong with reusing assets if they still look good and fit what you are going for, although I'll admit some of the new artists weren't great.
Imagine think that P5 is better than 4, let alone 3
>play nocturne on hard
>first hours in the game, if the enemy starts first you can die with literally no counterplay
