Where did everything go so incredibly wrong?

20XX, the year you were born.

Gen 4.

Next question.

Gen 4 was a great though you stupid fucking zoomer

Pokemon Go

yes, after gen 4. I agree

This

Pokemon died after gen 5.

This but Gen 3 is still an acceptable answer

gen 3. everyone who says otherwise has bad taste.

it was the final nail in the coffin really

Gen 4 started the trend of starters being anthropomorphic in design.

After black and white 2 when all genuine improvements to the formula started to be rolled back or paired with downsides that made the package bitter sweet culminating in the newest game having a sacrifice so big than anything good they COULD have added would have still hemorrhaged their playerbase, and they didnt add anything worth it to begin with
might just be my bias though
>Krookodile best pokemon fight me

This desu. X & Y were low effort cash grabs even by Pokemon standards and everything went tumbling down after that.

liking gen 4 is zoomershit

I actually hate all the starters other than a seldom few after gen 2, but gen 3 and 4 have good games

>Gen 4 started the trend of starters being anthropomorphic
>tortoise
>just a monkey
>actual penguin
what?

>What is Blaziken

not really, gen 3 does that ten times worse

gen 4 was one of the best designed starters in the series, gen 5 was dogshit and gen6 onwards are just some fursonas

im an old school fan, but yeah gen 5 is really the end of the old pokemon as we know it. people who say gen 4, you cant discount gen 4. this is when they finally changed up the physical and special moves and made some broken aspects actually make sense.

so yeah gen 4 and 5 are both acceptable but after that is where it really began to change for the worse.

Gen 3.

Simple repetition. Sequel of game can't have what we've already got, and they used a goddamn dragon in the third slot.

this is advanced autism

Gen 4 is amazing. Gen 5 was a small step down, then Gen 6 is where it went off the rails

i aint gonna criticize the game choice but congratulations you figured out cute character design 101

Yes a giant quadrupedal tortoise with a tree on its back is very anthropomorphic. Blastoise was more anthropomorphic than fucking Torterra

And yet the gen 1 starters remain the most popular while everything else is fotm garbage. Weird huh?

If you want to say "when they started looking bobblehead-ish", then gen 3.
But if you want to get strict about it, the plague of starters with universal humanoid elements started in gen 6. At the very least Serperior is uniquely shaped, and Samurott (even if it gets none of the attention) is on four legs.

Online multiplayer ruined pokemon. If you really wanted to fix the series you'd split the main games into two different series (one dedicated to a singleplayer experience and another dedicated to online battles)

Pokemon Black and White were the first games I didn't finish because I got bored halfway through

>optional feature ruins series
You're a goddamn idiot.

Well yeah, the game is balanced around online multiplayer and the singleplayer difficulty has suffered because of it

He thinks that the resources devoted to it could make the singleplayer experience better.

Faggot faggot. If by anthro you mean furs hit them that’d be gen 3 mainly with things like gardevoir

Pokemon singleplayer has never been difficult

not really because A: what im refreshing is how the image seems to be critiquing a basic design principle in all cute cartoon characters so it doesn't really pose a factor in terms of body shape and 2: They are mostly more popular because they are first, and mudkip, rowlet, fennekin, froakie, torchic, and treecko are all pretty popular in their own right

>He thinks that the resources devoted to it could make the singleplayer experience better.
>If you really wanted to fix the series you'd split the main games into two different series

How would making 2 games be less resource intensive than 1 game?

TWO
count em
T W O
signature moves
both of which are broken, oh but we ain't done yet. FUCKING
PROTEAN. Such an aggressively shilled mon has made me instantly hate it, meanwhile, I love Toxtricity despite it being a horrible anthrofucker magnet

Gen 5 is probably where you'd see the biggest shift since they didn't seem to spend as much time on every design as in previous gens since they had to make so many of them.
After that in gen 6 they wanted to return to "simplistic designs" which resulted in what you see now. Designs you can easily make toys and merch out of.

What gives you this idea? Masuda has even directly stated that the games are easier because they think kids will go play phone games if the games provide any sort of challenge.

Green version

yeah because it's balanced around the idea that anything the enemy has you hypothetically could obtain yourself. That's why a singleplayer only game would be better since the AI could start cheating and use monsters you can't

>caring about balance in Pokemon
Catch Them All shit>Battleshit. Pokemon became unappealing when the task of catching all of them and filling up the Pokedex became impossible. Pokemon has very little appeal outside of being a metaphor for coming of age and Gen I and II did it best.

>what im refreshing is how the image seems to be critiquing a basic design principle in all cute cartoon characters
You don't need bobble heads to make cute cartoon characters.

>They are mostly more popular because they are first
And because they're the most well designed instead of being retarded chibi animals.

>HURR DURR, SOUL = GOOD AND OLD, SOULLESS = BAD AND NEW

Soulfags will defend the left.
