I don't understand the complex mechanics of TF2, so I'd prefer to play Blizzards latest shitshow where it's all mushed down into the press of a button.

there might be something close, like a new Team Fortress or a game that takes heavy inspiration, but nothing quite as potent as TF2

Although it can be hard to master, I think tf2 is simpler than the vast majority of shooters. most classes are not like the engineer or spy. most classes are like demoman or scout with 2 guns and a melee. or rather 2007 tf2 is. all you need to do to improve tf2 is remove items.

Playing the Dev commentary really shows just how much these guys truly understood how to make a tight experience. It's a lot like The Last Airbender, lightning in a bottle. They had the perfect crew doing the right things at an opportune time.
How they've updated the game is a different matter, but it's clear there is a large amount of soul infused in the game that shines through to this day.
I wish they would finish the comics at the very least.
