bad because laughter

Other games good because linear (but overworld)

The last good mainline Final Fantasy

Good because Lulu's tits.

Nothing wrong with a game being linear. Cuts the fat off off.
Open world just means mindlessly running from place to place, wasting your time.

I don’t want to play a running simulator.

>you are a figment of an idealized city which is an amalgamation of everyone that lived in that city's memories having a collective dream for a thousand years after a king turned them into magic statues that then made you real so that you can defeat a giant magic robot whale that became your dad so they can finally die, except for you because you are not real, but actually you are (or are you)?

Is the romance in this game engaging?

Careful now. Yas Forums likes to pretend XII was good now

Linear, story didn't really hook me. I do really like the return to turn based combat, but the fact it basically did the same shit as XIII did with its emphasis down hallways which occasionally branched into A Treasure Chest and The Right Way To Go and got away with it will always trouble me

not cuz it's linear
main issue with it is the first 10 hours are just cutscenes and tutorials before you actually get to run around and start fighting shit.

The linear hallway movie game was the last good one? It's literally the one that gave birth to FFXIII.
FFX ruined the series. FFXII was the last good one before the FFX team decided to go full moron and create the FFXIII series that fucked up the series for 15 years

Bad because forced romance.

>I do really like the return to turn based combat
I-IX were also turn based. Are you drunk? They didn't change it up until after.

I actually am drunk, but I was referring to turn based combat where you have all the time in the world to select an option, AKA not ATB

>It turns out you are the Final Fantasy

Isn' there an option to turn it off? Usually there is, but I only played about an hour or so back in the day and couldn't get into it. I just didn't like anything about it. Boring characters and bad music.

pinnacle of Final fantasy

good graphics
good smooth turn based combat
blitzball is fun
amazing atmosphere and pacing

just about everything was a improvement from the ps1 ff games

This.

>bad music

You're deaf.

>The linear hallway movie game was the last good one? It's literally the one that gave birth to FFXIII.
being linerar isnt the problem, the problem with ff13 is everthing else. bad pacing badly told story with no town or anything to get me immersed with the world. final fantasy 13 is litteraly final fantasy with out a soul.

The story sucked, but the comprehensive amount of side content makes up for it.

This, one of the fan favorate songs from the series comes right from FFX

because zodiac age is actually good

>linear bad
>open world good

What is this 2007?

Fucking awful, sounds like a shitty indie wannabe rpg.

>taking out everything that makes a game a game isn't the problem

you cant prove it kid

You run around and start fighting shit several minutes in. Are you just mad tutorial messages pop up sometimes tho? Is it bad that mechanics expand as the game goes on?

Isn't that like all Tales games are like.

te

I was memeing but yeah the Tales games I've played and FF6-9 have a similar structure where an overworld exists, but most of the game still funnels you from point to point and it only really opens up at the end. And even then it's just a handful of sidequests.

Overall they're about as linear as FFX, since that one doesn't have an overworld the FFX IS LINEAR!! cliche exists
