it was an awful turn for metroid and had it not been for prime releasing the same day to soften the blow, the series would be dead a decade and a half ago

1. despite the new suit and potential for innovative stuff, all the upgrades are rehashes, save for the diffusion missiles which hardly count as being new

2. Despite trying to have a horror atmosphere, it is the brightest and most colorful game in the series. There is also a save point a minute away regardless where you are so death doesn't matter. The two chases with SA-X are pathetic as well.

3. Being more linear and story driven is wasted because the story is one of the most boring in the series anyway

I'm not reading this airing of nerd grievances. I played it back-to-back from Super and ZM, it's an excellent game in its own right. I don't care if you think it kicked your dog.

But they weren't successful. Compared to other flagship exclusives they sold like shit.

Fusion would be a better game if it had more open structure but I think it’s still a really well paced 2D action game with an insane amount of atmosphere for a cartoony sprite based game

good game, I liked the expansion on the level design from the original but wasn't too keen on the aeion abilities, I liked the parry in boss fights but it made killing some regular enemies longer than it needed to be (wish there was a bit more enemy variety too). The diggernaut and its chase sequences sucked but they made up for it with the fun ridley boss
