[laughs in chiralium]

No, this is a leak from the second HD remaster, PS5 exclusive.

at least do a proper faceapp fusion

I'm about 15 hours in and I've never heard someone call Tidus by name. Is this foreshadowing?

No. It's just like that cause you have the option to name him at the start so no one ever calls Tidus by name.

Oh.

You could change character names on the PS2 release a la the previous titles. VA was written around this piece.

Ah, the star player of the Zanarkand Abes.

What he said I thought the same thing though, you're not wrong to get a strange vibe from it, especially with the story.

So how do we know how Tidus is pronounced?

Eh, at least it's better than another "are video games politics" thread.

It's quite simple, just like the Roman Titus
Even looks similar

Dissidia, ffx ps2 commercial, KH I think, lots of places.

In the original release of FFX, you had an additional disc with the VA talking about their characters and what not. If I remember correctly, it is Tide-us.

ok lads post your wallpapers

Why oh WHY wasn't Lulu a romantic route? I'm still butthurt over this. I didn't want Yuna dammit. Screw those insecure Japs and their "the protag's female interest shouldn't be the sexiest/curviest girl and should look shy and timid" tiresome trope.

>game villain is a giant whale
>protag has a weapon that looks like water
>entire sport based around water football
>people still call him teedus

i don't think i ever watched that dvd or even took it out of the case

That's what I figured , but OP made me think otherwise.
Respect the fallen, faggot.

Japanese is a phonetic language so there's no confusion on pronounciation like English. His name in JP is ティーダ literally "Tee-dah"

Localization changed it from Tida to Tidus likely to match the theme of water and a similarity to existing name Titus. They also changed a lot of the associations between characters and their sigils and whatnot. So while yes, ティーダ is from the Okinawan word for Sun, the localization was changed to match different themes for each region and their cultural ideas.

In a similar way we do not say Sukuwaru or Kuraudo, we have "Squall" and "Cloud."

Kingdom Hearts 1 has his name spoken by Wakka as "Tee-dus," the first voiced utterance of his name. I believe it was said in other stuff like maybe Dissidia as well.

Weebs will demand he be called Teedus because that's "the original" pronounciation, ignoring how dumb it sounds, the localized themes of characters, the fact that other characters names were adjusted to sound natural in English, and pronunciation rules of English.

And Square have mostly sided with said weebs on that pronunciation issue. Though anyone with a normally functioning brain knows "Tie-dus" makes the most sense.

>Tidus has two different canon pronunciations according to Squeenix
Neat!

As much of a meme as this is, nothing takes me back to early 2000s or late 90s pcs like this image does

I think the OP is not to be taken serious. It's a play on the different pronounciations of Tidus the fans came up with over the years.

If you're into FFX it's definitely worth putting that fucker into your PS2.

Square has never acknowledged the pronounciation of "Tie-dus" nor has "Tie-dus" ever been said in any game by any character. Some people in this thread mentioned interviews or making of documentaries, and I don't know but it's not important to have things accurate in that situation. Que the George Lucas "gungans" clip

>Been going with "Tie-dus" before his name was officially uttered
And I'm going to stick with it. Same with Aeris too. Gas all Aerithfags.

The thing I'll say about Aeris is the Japanese cannot make a "th" sound and always use their phonetic version of "s." It's usually pretty clearly when a "th" is more befitting, as any katakana words ending with their "s" sound that would translate to having an S is a plural word the vast majority of the time. So Aerith makes the most sense in that case. But if purist weebs are going to be like "it's Teedus because in JP its Tee!!!" they might as well just drop the S and call him Teeda since his Japanese name lacks that S sound
