Joel is an amoral thug who lies, steals, tortures and kills all for his own benefit. Nothing he does is for the benefit of anybody but himself. The game is VERY upfront about this and even the voice actor says he considers him a villain and Joel would consider himself a villain.

If you got so attached to the guy that you're extremely disappointed by the obvious outcome that his actions finally caught up with him or you consider it a betrayal, you're kind of an idiot. Just because Druckmann is a hack (and make no mistake, Druckmann is a hack of the highest order) doesn't mean this wasn't always going to happen or that it should not happen. The second a sequel was greenlit, Joel's death warrant was signed, as it well should have been.

oh well if the voice actor said it then I guess I'll give all my money to the church of scientology

Joel is amoral and yet considers himself a villain.

pretty strange thing for an amoral person to do

Based retard.

He also said that kanji is gay so if he's not a writer i dont take it as a fact

Rather be a real man.

nobody cares about your damage control, shill

The voice actor

Joel's morals were entirely suitable for the post-apocalypse.

So your point of view is that Joel is such a good guy, he should never die even in the game about Ellie reaching maturity. That doesn’t make sense

Are you people seriously pissy Joel died? What did you think was going to happen? That is THE special effect you use when writing a story about a man and his daughter surviving the apocalypse

so your point of view is that i should buy a game about something i don't like

I don't care about Joel dying but I do care about a MtF tranny beaten him to death with a golf club while he begs for his life.

but he's hot

My point of view is that someone who never lived can never die.

I’m not buying the game either, Last of Us isn’t fun. Do you have it in you to explain why you Joel’s death is so unacceptable and offensive to you?

Nobody's telling you to buy it. I'm not buying it. The game is probably going to suck, because Druckmann can't do shit without Straley or Hennig keeping him in check. I just think people acting like this is some grand betrayal, given what we already knew about this series and what the sequel was gonna be about, is pretty ridiculous.

Exactly. And where else did they possibly think Joel’s story was going?

Not him, but Joel was the infinitely more compelling character and thus the reason to see the story through. Ellie might be the main character now, but she's infinitely more of a sidekick and works best with Joel. If Ellie died, I wouldn't want to play the game either as the best part of the game besides that gameplay was watching two relatively believable characters struggle and grow together.

It's pretty common for people to be amoral about their actions but moral about others. He's saying that Joel would consider himself a villain if looking at himself from an outside perspective. Which we knows he do, because he considered villains people that acted pretty much like him.

>x is selfish instead of being selfless
>how dare u not care about people you don't know!! Why you not the second coming of jesus???
>BAD!!!
Ok spook

Cause some people actually liked the game and Joel is their fav

Yeah those kinds of people don't think they're bad people OP, the villains usually think they're right. Not "I do bad stuff because I'm bad yo" and when those villains do arise they're absolute garbage

I think the thing that we all kind of knew when Last of Us came out and a lot of people have been pretending to not know since then is that The Last of Us absolutely did not need a direct sequel. Joel and Ellie's story was DONE.

It's honestly kind of sad and cowardly when you really think about it. Naughty Dog had the cache with people that they could've put their foot down, said that story was over and made something new. But they went back to this and the only option was to kill Joel off, which is the only thing you can do, but it was never necessary to go there in the first place.

Honestly as soon as they dropped that lesbian coming-of-age trailer without Joel present, I felt they ruined the setting by both separating the main duo, and having scenes without the outbreak entirely, in favor of tender prom moments about first kisses. I haven’t looked at the entire plot yet, but it’s obvious they’ve gone out of control with the Oscar bait, or whatever video game equivalent to there is to tryhard emotionality
Tell me, am I honestly so anti-progressive if I find this lesbian first dance scene to be completely irrelevant? I struggle to imagine the people who are thrilled by it, but I can’t say I have any dislike for the characters. It’s just pointless and they made it the trailer

Should have done some new characters.

>actor is faggot

STOP THE PRESSES

>women can’t reach maturity unless men die

Yeah Last of Us 2 is a horribly unnecessary idea. I’m really out off by the Sony push to be the most important cinematic emotional and ‘deep’ brand on the planet, Last of Us was complete but of course Sony and Naughty Dog can’t help but rely on this name to pour cheap HBO schmaltz on an audience they’re just assured are crying their asses off the whole time. It’s like that fucking Unravel game, pretentious as shit and I hate it

i think for the betterment of mankind we should view this as an affront to humanity and have druckman executed, even if it truly is a minor thing.

You can dislike stuff with progressive content in it if that content is tonally dissonant or shallow or whatever other word you wanna use for "it's bad." I think it's kinda cool the way they did Ellie being gay in TLoU and the DLC. I thought they were upfront about it without being stupid about it. It was a part of her character and it was unambiguous but they didn't pat themselves on the back or make it part of the marketing.

Then they made it part of the marketing. And were very much patting themselves on the back. And it was in the service of a very boring scene that tells me nothing about Ellie that I didn't already know, tells me nothing about this new character, tells me nothing about the story I didn't already know and tells me nothing about the gameplay. It was a big red flag.
