What peaks are you talking about exactly? I find it easily one of, if not the blandest score that Uematsu has ever produced.

There's some decent music on there but poor musical storytelling throughout the entire game which 6, 7 and 9 excel in. I'll never get over the "exciting" battle theme sounding more like a news bulletin from the 1970s.

I'm 22 and in need of a comfy game have I passed the age where this game will have the most effect on me

Those are the peaks of the score? The absolute highest highs it has to offer? I like Man with the Machine Gun as much as the next person but it's hardly Uematsu's greatest work, let alone one of his best battle themes.

3's ost is filled with wonder and adventure but it's also the most dreamlike. It's fantastic.

Outside FF, I remember the old harry potter games having the most magical music I've heard, much better than the movies.

That's subjective. I think it's solid enough but the boss themes in 3, 4, 6 and 7 edge it out for me.

I'm really not against the 8 OST. It's really got some solid compositions, but it's poor instrumentation and lack of any sort of musical storytelling really drag it to the bottom. Rather than saying it has high highs and low lows, I've always found it to be boringly middle of the road. A lack of character themes and musical direction seem to have hurt it but that might be down to 8's rushes production more than anything.

Only Xenoblade 2's soundtrack is able to be on par with FFIX's soundtrack. Rarely you'll ever find a 100+ tracks OST with at least half of the tracks being 5/5,and the rest being 4/5, marrying both quantity and quality. Now that it's getting a proper recording budget on par with XC2's, XC1DE's should soon be up there as well.
