Once you reach Heavensward, ignore half of Stormblood and launch ShB? Sure, but outside of that you can really only praise the music. There's a reason nearly every argument in regards to XIV's "pro"s is the story and never the gameplay.

Which is why even the new relic is less than an hour long compared to Zodiac or Anima, without the Zeta which is a grind in of itself. Ignoring the fact too that they streamline the gearing process so everyone can easily get tomestone and not think about their stat allocation cause any semblance of choice is stripped from you. Do your dailies and get your guaranteed endgame gear.

AAA industry is in a bad place at the moment and MMOs are the extreme on every metric of AAA. Lots of time and money required just to build it. People have mentioned in the past that WoW will have to really truly die for the genre to be revived and it's true. It's just too steep a hill to risk money on when there are already established games that have been perched there for ages.

EQnext had the right idea despite having the misfortune of being worked on by SOE. Changing world, building cities, etc. They probably would have fallen for the same mistake that many do, and that's giving players total freedom. That sounds great until you realize that means everything devolves into small tribes ganking lowbies or breaking people's shit while they're asleep, in the bathroom, or at work.
