Why can't devs just support Linux? Is it really that hard to make a Linux version of a game? Is it due to NVidia's mediocre Linux support? Windows causes so much fucking frustration. I just want to play video games.
Why can't devs just support Linux? Is it really that hard to make a Linux version of a game...
The economics of the matter suggest that even if Linux was the most popular platform there would be a concerted effort to privatize it if people stood to gain money from propitiatory software for it.
So it's human nature that good things can't happen, essentially.
>support linux
Okay, which flavor of linux?
Which packages?
Which version of homebrewed cobbled together drivers that all of them have because they operate on blobs instead of actual drivers from real manufacturers?
Which version of frontend, too? Mono? WINE?
This is why devs don't support Linux.
It's not even the muh freedumbs aspect, it's that Windows 10 is a fucking clusterfuck of an OS with 5 or 6 different UIs jumbled into one that actively fights you from doing whatever the fuck you want to do. On the one hand it feels like it was designed for tablets or other devices, on the other hand it feels like it was designed to be a PC version of Xbox OS, on the other foot it feels like a successor to 7. Why do I have Add or Remove Programs and Add or Remove Apps? Why are they seperate? Why does my PC OS have apps and an app store? Why the fuck is this allowed?
I mean you're not wrong. SteamOS was our best bet to defeat it, and unfortunately Valve is too retarded to get a good version of it down for general presentation to the public.
Because Linux is bad,.

I play and install games just fine on Windows. If you don't like Windows for other reason's fair enough but if you want to play video games on PC stop being a faggot.
lmao why are you even using Linux if you want to play games you dumb fuck
Rocket league did, then they stopped because it was
>do more work for this one customer
Why?
>On the one hand it feels like it was designed for tablets or other devices
Its predecessor Windows 8 was, I assume Windows 10 took some design elements from 8 and the rest from previous versions.
Why even use linux if you can't figure out Wine and emulating windows games?
>Install Fedora
>Grab Steam, tick on Proton
>Launch a game
>It just werks
Wow so hard.
>>Windows causes so much fucking frustration.
>Install Windows
>Play games
>Install Linux
>wtf why can't I play my games, this is Windows fault
Sounds like your frustration is misplaced
linux is for pirates
>install to c:\program files\mygame
>path exception because linux doesn't do it like that
okay nah not worth the extra eight sales
>Is it really that hard to make a Linux version of a game?
No, if you make the game compatible from the start, porting is ass though. Hopefully Vulkan will replace directx completely soon enough
They stopped it because Epic games acquired Psyonix, not because of their userbase size.
Proton is better than native for the majority of games in my experience
They openly said it wasn't worth supporting Linux due to the disproportionate amount of dev time it took.
fuck off usagi, this is my secret club.
and you don't even know how to use a computer anyway
Drive letters are retarded, even windows lets you mount wherever the fuck you want as long as you have one label
It's just epic going out of their way to undermine linux for god knows why
I like the part where the anticheat company they own has a linux version of their software but Epic refuses to acknowledge it.
>Which version of homebrewed cobbled together drivers that all of them have because they operate on blobs instead of actual drivers from real manufacturers?
forcing drivers to be inserted on kernel or modules was the best decision linus made. it forces the fucking corporate assholes to contribute something at all. except jewvidia, what a motherfucking disgusting backwards faggot people.
fuck desktop linux
Enjoy no drivers.
Or maybe, just maybe, putting serious dev time into 0.3% of your player base is fucking retarded.
>The number of active players on macOS and Linux combined represents less than 0.3% of our active player base. Given that, we cannot justify the additional and ongoing investment in developing native clients for those platforms, especially when viable workarounds exist like Bootcamp or Wine to keep those users playing.
They were perfectly content before the acuisition by epic. You'd have to be stupid to believe it's not just epic being a bitch
>t. Broadcomm
Maybe Epic looked at the data and decided to stop pissing away money for irrelevant principles.
