If you get someone very clumsy with it who ends up dropping it or losing hold of it that's less of an issue but anything that's adding reach is a pain in the arse to deal with and anything bladed is going to leave both of you cut the fuck up if it actually gets into hand-to-hand.

I train at an MMA/bjj gym and spent time in the army of my country (required), I've also trained with people from other nations, the stuff they teach you in the services would be lucky to get you a single stripe on your belt.
MMA/bjj/'self-defence' classes etc are just sport fighting. What actually happens in the real world is that the bigger, better equipped or luckier person wins.
