I’m gonna flip the script on the OP (who we all know is a fag) and compliment Nintendo. Why, I was just thinking about them earlier today. I love that Nintendo truly operates in this vacuum of extremely quirky design principles because they don't study what other games do, they just make what they know how to make. Nintendo’s approach is surprisingly old-school for how enduring and successful the company has been; they focus on making something that “works”, and their artists always execute near perfect visual design. Sure, some of the things they do are so unambiguously stupid and backwards (everything to do with internet connectivity, insane markup on what is unquestionably very cheap hardware) but when it comes together they really do it like no one else in the biz
