he doesn't steal anything, he actually pirates your weapons and armor he is equipped with, you get a copy of everything he has equipped with so if you change his gear around and steal his stuff you can get doubles of whatever he has on.

Tangentially related, but what is the definitive version of Tactics Ogre?

A lot of confusing on the surface mechanics that make it a true tactics-lite successor...mired by gacha mechanics and opaque character advancement systems that reduce the challenge to auto-battle-to-win. Also the gacha mechanics themselves are strange. Once you pull your desire unit, you have to STOP pulling entirely, and save your premium currency to buy shards (you need these for one of those obtuse advancement mechanics) in the shop. Normal premium units have special quests that let you grind out the shards over time for free, but limited units don't have those, so you end up having to hawkishly watch the ingame shop refreshes for the valuable shards, but they disappear and lock your character out of their potential.

Supposedly a game mode called the tower has traditional FFT difficulty, but that's not in Global yet, so I can't speak on it. My advice is unless you're well familiar with gacha-game bullshit, to steer clear. It's too late for me, I'm in too deep.

Gameplay is good. I feel it does a decent job bringing the Tactics experience to a gacha game. Of course, it's mired with some gacha downfalls. Having to both awaken AND limit burst characters, having to upgrade characters along side equipment, cards, and espers, stuff like that. But I feel the base experience is still pretty good despite all that. I'm f2p and I'm enjoying my time with it.

I don't know what the definitive version is, but I played LUCT on my Vita and it became one of my favorite games
