Why did MapleStory 2 fail?
Why did MapleStory 2 fail?

no content, game lagged like shit on release in Korea, China, Japan, and the United States because their servers were cheap and overworked. Classes were boring and had very few customization options (lmao, no class variety in a maple story game). bosses were gated behind stupid mechanics and were held back and drip fed to hide the game's lack of content. Not a single interesting dungeon, the editor that was originally promised was never released because the devs realized people would spend more time playing editor minigames than playing the actual game and buying micro transaction items.
Timegated content that gave streamers higher dropcahnce.
Usually I would say it's because its a shit game, but many shit games succeed so it's simply because it failed to grab and maintain an audience. Like what said.
They kept dungeon limiting, added rep grinding, and buffed chaos bosses for no reason. Damn shame too because I like the game but the rep grind/ daily quests made it feel like a job and I stop having fun.
>still managed to fail even with a ton of coomer bait
Man, you really have to fuck up badly to do that.
post the gif, you know the one
Came here to post this
it didn't fail, but it didn't succeed either.
if it doesn't pull in the same amount of whales at maplestory1 does, no korean game will ever survive a western port
and that was a fluke made in the birth of free MMORPGs, they're never going to get that chance again.
p2w doesn't work on the west
youtube.com
>tl;dw
Koreans are drones and cant understand why the West doesnt like grinding
3D sucks compared to the comfy sprite art
Plenty of people like grinding. Sadly nu-MMOs aren't about grinding anymore, since all the stuff is in the cashshops/lootboxes.
First game was successful because there wasn't really anything like it when it first came out. Then continued to be successful due to sunk cost and nostalgia.
2nd ignored all that and assumed it was the game and gameplay itself that people liked.
When's the server shutting down? I kind of want to explore it before it fades from existence
Why do people like grinding?
Why do children ask dumb questions?
i tend to enjoy dress up games and daily chores, but they didn't let me have an auto gatherer for my crops and shit
also, no one ever made custom clothes for my fetish
Sometimes it's nice to have a goal to work your way towards.
Too much focus on gimmicks not enough on the core gameplay ngl I also have yet to find something that gives me the same power trip satisfaction as the first
Thing is they limited dungeon grinding to 10 dungeons a day like a mobile game for some reason. Me and my guild likes to run dungeons for rare drops and sell them off but that dungeon limited killed it for most of us.
Because rather than a quirky platformer MMO that actually tries to do something new (with wildly varying degrees of success) they opted to make a cookie cutter grindathon with piss-poor world and travel mechanics and very little content, expecting the 'player-made' stuff to make up for it. It was a poor quality sandbox MMO when sandbox MMOs are on the way out.
Say what you will about Maplestory 1, at least it pushed the boat out a little. Nobody had done a metroidvania MMO when it was released, so it was new and innovative. Maplestory 2 was low-effort junk through and through.
>West doesn't like grinding
Why is runescape popular then?
Too much time-gated content. Sure you could run as many dungeons as you wanted but after 15 runs you stop getting anything from it so there's no incentive. The whole game was built with mobile game mechanics, very stupid.
Idm grinding hell I still play the original maplestory and that shits pure fuckin korean grind maplestory 2 just had so much fuckin wrong with it like the 10 dungeon limit etc.
lol nevermind. Forgot I've moved to Linux.
Anyone know any comfy videos touring through most of the maps?
>have to play for 10k hours to unlock a face
>it isn’t unlocked on other characters and you have to do it multiple times
Who was thinking that was a good idea?
They had some nice stuff to grind for like colors to dye your outfits for playing a long time, faces that looked cool and outfits.
Not a good sandbox, and the rest was sabotaged by streamer feedback.
Getting around the map was very easy with the flying mounts they gave you. I honestly used to explore maps just for fun and stars.
The game itself sucked it had some cool
Stuff but they got boring after awhile it was to far removed from Maplestory you could rename the towns and remove the bosses and monsters from Maplestory and name it something else it and you wouldn’t even know it was supposed to be a new maple game they just used the name to sell the game
>not 2.5D
>remove beginner
>remove job advancement
>that gay lifeless talent tree whatever thing seriously the way maple did skill points was really good why did they throw that way
>combat was more like diablo or something
>can only do so many dungeons a day
>100 annoying cutscenes
>to handholy
>the whole epic store making every new character feel the same
The world itself was cute and it had some cool stuff but overall the gameplay sucked they made good use of the cube style world I willl give them that I get they didn’t want to remake Maplestory but when you went to were mushmom was and it actually was the right camera angle I was upset the rest of game wasn’t like that. Overall for free game it was pretty decent and kinda fun but meh Mabey now they will open a old pre Big Bang server or make an actual Maplestory 2
That doesn't sound correct
MapleStory 2 was one of the least grindy MMOs in terms of leveling, to the point I'd say it was too fast due to it pushing you incredibly quickly to it's horrible endgame
The forced (and shitty) storyline and the endgame is where I'd say the problem with the game stood
Its endgame was essentially the same as any other themepark MMO out there
You'd log in, run all your daily raids/dungeons before being locked out for the day
The real kicker with MS2 was the equipment you got from raids had random stats COMBINED with MapleStorys enhancement system; meaning you had random stats AND random stat rolls to deal with when it came to obtaining equipment from dungeons
>GUYS YOU NEED ACC TO FIGHT CHAOS BOSSES
>JK LIED JUST TO CLEAR THE BOSS FIRST
I hope they are happy with themselves. Also them niggers got them to buff chaos bosses hp for ??? reasons.
Shit easy game, ugly setting, p2w, no content
>100 annoying cutscenes
>to handholy
These were by far the biggest flaws with the game. I wanted to play it, but I would just mash through cut scenes and skip whatever I could because goddamn the story was horrible and I just had 0 interest.
Never even got to whatever the end game would have been thanks to this.
Maplestory 2 was fun for the 30 hours i played it for but fuck time gating shit. At least it felt like less of a kick in the dick then Ragnarok 2 was.
Then you has to rep grind just to get rereollers and then have to max a rep just to unlock a different rep to grind. I ducking hated sky castle update. The only reason that shit worked in Korea was because you could just buy rerollers with money.
You think those were the biggest flaws? Those are just things you find annoying, not in any way the games biggest flaws
Because it was a casual MMO that wanted to be hardcore.
RNG grind is FUCKING BORING. You have to unironically be the lowest form of life to allow corporations to waste your time with arbitrary game access requirements. I knew it would be dead within 2 years or less during the first october next to release.
People weren't there to raid treadmill, and you could tell this because the beta was fun and well received, when it was smaller and casual dungeons/raids - people were there to shit around in queens, play minigames, socialize, explore, screw around etc.
They didn't even fill in the rest of the arcade minigames. Bye MS2. I piss on you.
>No content
>The entire game was just a front for endless cash shop additions
They really should have let you do the story or grind. It was a bitch to level up other characters and having to do the story quest over and over again.
>Ragnarok 2
God they fucked that up so badly. I don’t even use the soul vs soulless things but Ragnarok 2 was the most soulless thing ever. Legit just a wow clone.
maplestory 1 was only successful because of its cute old school art. people didnt play maplestory 1 to coom. making maplestory 2 a disgusting 3D game with fat tits on every chibi girl was a huge mistake that alienated the core players
Most people I know found it cute but it did have a lot of porn.
i just didn't like it that much as a game and didn't think it was good or fun. I thought maplestory was much more interesting in it's heyday. ms2 felt too easy and like a generic top-down view 3d game and the only reason I stuck around was because of the name.
>Get my girlfriend to try Maple2 a while back
>She eventually goes to log off
>That one event chibi bunny girl npc pops up
>"uuuhhhhh why does this little girl have no clothes on"
>I just shrug
Yeah they had a lot of that lewd loli shit didn't they?
The Closed Beta Test was the only good thing to come out of MapleStory 2
You gf was dumb and doesn’t know what a bunny suit is.
They got way more lewd than they needed to with the loli characters and you know it. No need to get so defensive pedo.
It was incredibly fun and the threads were great.
No they are even numaple suffers from them they are one of the reasons old maple was so good was
>no story
>no cutscenes
You just went in and played and had a fun time I don’t care for gay lore whatever I’m not watching 100 cutscenes i couldn’t give 2 craps about the story of the game ironic because the name but seriously that’ alone is one of the reasons pre Big Bang will forever be better having to skip 100 cutscenes and being on rails isn’t fun it made new characters feel like a chore
This. It's also what killed Master X Master (shitty amazon servers).
Did it fail in Korea?
Maybe he means the other RO2.
