Genuinely asking, when did something like that happen?
every single dragon ball game
The VA for Kellog in Fallout 4 didnt know he voice him until he played the game
The VA for Torque in XCOM: Chimera squad had no idea she was voicing a giant snake woman
That's pretty funny
yeah it really shows that the snake VA has no idea
Trials of mana
I also hate that they don't do interruptions right. How fucking hard can it be to just overlap some audio a little more?
how does something like this even happen
Reminder that Bethesda made the voice actors in Oblivion read their voice lines in alphabetical order so that's why they're so stilted.
I think R* didn't tell a lot of their VAs for San Andreas and IV that they were going to be in a GTA game or something
"Vinny? Who the fuck is Vinny? I don't know all of your daffy pals."
Sonic Adventure
>voice acting director doesnt tell the va the context behind the scene
I know he didn't know who Vinny was but it's bizarre that he just assumed the guy was talking about someone only the user knew.
>Bethesda made the voice actors in Oblivion read their voice lines in alphabetical order so that's why they're so stilted.
What?
>You're coming to voice a role
>Okay, sure, gimme the lines
And that's how it happens
>It's the same voice actors and director from the previous game have to do shit in one take because there's no money involved episode
And people blame voice actors when shit sounds off when their direction is shit
It was so weird for the NPCs to change voice actors mid-sentence. How can Bethesda fuck up everything so bad every time but still be a huge company?
Oblivion was the beginning of the end for Bethesda.
Too afraid of people leaking shit
>it's a "translator for game doesnt wanna pay voice actors, so he hires his family to do voice acting, half the voices not matching the characters and the other half not giving a damn about their lines" episode
they give them little context to safeguard against leakers
or maybe even worse, the writers didn't finish writing the characters by the time the voice actor's working slot came up
Overlord 1
>translator didn't think it was worth hiring actors so he figured if they could speak they were good enough
>it's a "the translation is mediocre and the voice acting is bad except for that one actor who really tried their best and brought true life to their character even if it was different from the original" episode
>chaos_wars.jpeg
>it's a "cheap voice actor is asked to imitate a more expensive voice actor that they chose not to hire" episode
>It's the "we had 14 dollars so we hired one woman and one man to do every character" episode
A funny thing is that all the cutscenes in Sonic Adventure 2 are timed for the Japanese audio, so the way they overlap in the English dub ends with some of the most natural interruptions in video games.
youtu.be
>switch to original japanese audio
>all the VAs are top-notch and into their roles
>it's a "voice director voices one of the characters" episode
>she does a shit job
Not the same exact thing, but some of the smash VAs weren't given any context as to what game series they were doing work for.
Zone of the Enders has quite possibly the worst voice acting and direction I've heard in a higher budget game. Nohman is good, and that's because he's full ham.
>remaster adds new content and interactions
>don't hire the old VA or even ask to reprise and just assume he'll be too expensive
>use some cheaper imitation instead
>he says he would've loved to if they asked him later
That's a neat bit of info. I didn't realize that was why they all talked over each other
Voice acting has to be the most easy job ever.
Just saying words into a microphone.
Every Rockstar game does this to ripoff voice actors
OH GOD IT HURTS
You're an idiot
every big western game
they can pay the VAs less money if they dont know they're acting for a big game
you have to have a voice that's actually nice to listen to and you can't stammer or sounds autistic (unless that's your character)
fucking Tales of Vesperia
There's a merchant NPC in Fallout 3 that refers to you as "Sir or Madam" like they couldn't be bothered to have him record separate lines
>studio hires British stage/professional theatre actors
>voice acting becomes one of the best parts of the game
It's easy as shit to do by itself, but getting recognition requires unreal amounts of nepotism and connections. You're also at a very high risk of throat injuries, and throat cancer later in life.
The best VAs are stage actors anyhow.
>t. Voice actor
Sorry; sometimes you have to say big words with more than two syllables.
Feel bad for your struggles.
